The National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) rejected a call given by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang (NSCN-K) for broad based unity among Nagas and a halt to the fratricidal strife, according to Assam Tribune. In a joint statement, the NSCN-K leadership, Chairman S. S. Khaplang, General Secretary N. Kitovi Zimomi and armed wing chief Kholi Konyak, said the task of unification was a step towards stopping bloodshed and install a sense of hope. It also added that unification should not be jeopardised by ulterior motives and called upon Nagas to uphold the sacred cause, it said. However, the NSCN-IM rejected the unification process initiated by its defectors led by Azheto Chophy, charging them with extortion and kidnapping for ransom in Dimapur town in the name of Naga unification.

According to Telegraph, the Adino faction of the Naga National Council (NNC) has asked the people to boycott the Legislative Assembly elections scheduled to be held on March 5. The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) also warned of stringent action against its cadres in case of their failure to boycott the polls. Further, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), which had earlier asked to support candidates helping them in their pursuit for a solution to the protracted Naga political problem, said on February 20 that it would not get involved in the election process.

On March 12, a 12-member ministry of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) led by Neiphiu Rio was sworn in by Governor K. Sankaranarayanan, reports Nagaland Post. Following the swearing in ceremony, Chief Minister Rio said that his government would play the role of an active facilitator to bring about lasting peace, unity and oneness in the Naga family. "The need of the hour is peace and we will constitute a Political Affairs Committee at the earliest to strengthen our role of facilitator", he said. Earlier in the day, the Union Cabinet had revoked the President's rule in Nagaland to pave way for the formation of a new government.

He mentioned, "They have been neglected by Yangon. The Nagas in Nagaland should unanimously support them to facilitate their development along with other Naga communities." Imkong of funding the National Socialist Council of Nagaland–Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) with INR 15 crores and INR 5 crores respectively, just before the Assembly Elections in March 2008. Imchen on September 9 informed the State Legislative Assembly that altogether 144 people, including 110 militants, 31 civilians and three security personnel, were killed in insurgency-related incidents in Nagaland from January 1 to August 15, 2008, reports Sentinel. He further said that a total of 21 people were arrested by police in connection with insurgency-related violence and booked under the National Security Act. He added that that from May 2006 to July 2008, the State police and security forces seized 155 pistols, ten carbines and stenguns, 33 AK rifles, one SLR, 24 assorted rifles, 17 SBBL, 12 grenades and 15,344 rounds of assorted ammunition.

These three states accounted for 1,179 incidents out of 1,276 till October 15, 2008 against 1,330 incidents out of 1,489 in 2007. Meanwhile, the report added that terrorist violence has decreased significantly in Tripura and Meghalaya due to counter-insurgency operations, while Arunachal Pradesh continues to suffer from low intensity violence. The report, however, said that Mizoram and Sikkim are by and large peaceful.
