The NSCN-K has ruled out talks with the Union Government as long as peace talks between the NSCN-IM and the Government continue. It also made clear that the outfit has entered into a cease-fire with the Government due to pressure from Naga non-governmental organizations, reports Kanglaonline. Interacting with a team of senior journalists from Nagaland at its Mon town headquarters, senior leader of the outfit, A. Z Jami, said "We had no intention to enter into a cease-fire with the Indian Government. We were pressurized to do so against our will by Naga NGOs." He further said, "We are merely watching the progress of the ongoing talks between the NSCN-IM and the Indian Government and we will not enter into negotiations while the dialogue between them is on."

The United Naga Council (UNC) has urged the Union Government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) to ensure a peaceful and lasting solution to the Naga conflict. In a statement, the UNC said that Nagas want peace and to that end the Centre must exhibit genuine political will to resolve the issue. "We also request the collective leadership of the NSCN (IM) for the extension of the ceasefire beyond January-31. However, we are aware that eight years of talks without any substantial agreement is fast becoming an indefensible situation", the statement added.

Press Trust of India reports that the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) has said that the outfit is not in favour of extending the ongoing ceasefire unless the Indian government takes "positive steps". Samson Jajo, secretary of the collective leadership of the NSCN-IM, told PTI, "The Indian side is insisting for the extension of the ceasefire for another year. But New Delhi should show positive steps they have taken which we can show our people. Otherwise an extension of the ceasefire is not possible." Talks between the two sides for extending the ceasefire are continuing in Bangkok since January 29. Jajo further said, "On the first issue of integration, no decision has been taken yet by the Indian Government."

Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, who led the Government delegation at the four-day talks with NSCN-IM leaders in Bangkok, said in New Delhi that the timing of the next round of talks would depend on the outfit. "We have been able to extend the cease-fire by six months. But we were not able to take up issues in a substantive manner. Over the next six months, we will try to hold substantive talks," he reportedly said. He further said, "Whenever they (NSCN-IM) want, we are ready to talk. It will depend on them."

I, on behalf of the Naga people and Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim, would like to appeal to the British people and their government in particular and the world community in general to help solve the problem,” Raising told the conference. He also alleged that there was no “tangible response” from Indian Government on several points, which his organisation had tabled as “substantive issues” for solution.

Accusing the Naga Hoho, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Naga Mother’s Association (NMA) and Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) of directly supporting the rival National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang (NSCN-K) in a press release on August 17 said that these organisations do not represent the Nagas. The release states "they should not forget that it was Th. Muivah and Isaac Swu who murdered nearly a thousand of NNC/FGN (read Naga National Council/Federal Government of Nagaland) workers accusing them to be Shillong Accordists. …If the IM (read NSCN-IM) signs an agreement for solution within Indian Union, Th. Muivah and Isak will face the same charge sheet they imposed on NNC after Shillong Accord of 1975. Same yardstick will be applied on some NGOs leaders unless they realize their mistakes and keep away from IM sell out plan".

He added that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan along with the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) of Bangladesh is instigating youths in India to achieve their goal. The outfits involved in this nefarious design are Harkat-ul-Jehad-Al-Islami, Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), he said. While speaking about the involvement of Al Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), apart from ISI and DGFI, in most of the fundings for this purpose, he mentioned, “Dhubri and Tura in Meghalaya are the most difficult border areas to man because of their terrain. And this makes crossing over from India to Bangladesh and vice versa easy.”
