Three Nagaland Police deserters have landed up at the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) headquarters Camp Hebron along with arms and ammunition, Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, told the Legislative Assembly on March 19. He informed the House that all the three police personnel, who deserted the force from Zunheboto on January 26, were dismissed from service while nine others were arrested and suspended in this connection. The Chief Minister also disclosed that the deserters first went to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang (NSCN-K) camp at Surohoto to join the outfit, but they were not taken in because they could not fulfill the outfit’s demand for money. Later, they went to Hebron and joined the NSCN-IM along with arms and ammunition.

Muivah told the press before leaving that he is hopeful of a peaceful and honourable settlement of the Naga conflict. He said, "The time will come soon... According to the Indo-Asian News Service, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) has expressed doubts over the Government of India’s intentions to integrate Naga-inhabited areas in the Northeast and called for a referendum if peace talks fail. "In case the government of India cannot take concrete steps, the matter (integration) cannot be stopped there. It should be referred back to the Naga people for a referendum," NSCN-IM chairman, Isak Chishi Swu, said in a statement. "The suppression of rights of the Nagas is similar to planting a time bomb and the prolonged and forced disintegration is dangerous," claimed Swu.

Quoting Dimapur based newspapers, the report said that the Naga Hoho, the Naga Mothers' Association and the Naga Students' Federation have said that there was no point in continuing with the peace talks if that fail to find a solution and if the Government of India is playing the delaying tactics to divide the Nagas.
