A suspected militant, identified as Luqman Khan (32) who had been missing since last one year was found dead near Sawan Mor off the Northern Bypass in outskirts of Karachi on January 4, reports Dawn. Police sources said that the deceased had been missing since 2019 from Pirabad area of Orangi Town, Karachi. The family had lodged his missing/kidnapping report at Pirabad Police Station in the same year.The police sources said that the deceased originally belonged to Swat area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on January 11 indicted five militants in the 2018 attack on the Chinese Consulate, report Samaa TV. In a hearing, the court ruled that the men were from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The suspects, on the other hand, denied any involvement in the attack. The court has issued notices to the witnesses and the investigating officer and instructed them to be present at the next hearing. The suspects have been identified as Ahmed, Nadir, Ali Ahmed, Abdul Latif and Aslam. On November 23, 2018, two police officers and two civilians, a father and son, were killed in firing outside the Chinese Consulate in Karachi’s Clifton. Three attackers were killed in the crossfire. An Anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Karachi on January 12 sentenced two persons inspired by Daish to life imprisonment in a case pertaining to the killing of a Pakistan Navy officer in 2013, reports Dawn. Accused Saad Aziz alias Tin Tin and Tahir Hussain Minhas aliasSaeen were found guilty of murdering Captain Ahmed of the Pakistan Navy and wounding his foreign wife in an armed attack in Karachi. The judge of the ATC-VIII pronounced the verdict reserved after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides. Both the accused, who were sentenced to death by a military court for the 2015 Safoora Goth bus carnage in which around 43 members of the Shia Ismaili community were killed, were produced in court from prison. The judge also imposed a fine of PKR 500,000 each on them and in case of default Aziz would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment, while Minhas would have to undergo an additional three-month imprisonment. The same court also awarded life imprisonment to accused Saad Aziz in a policeman’s murder case on October 16, 2014. Constable Waqar Hashmi, who was posted in the Rapid Response Force, was attacked and killed at the Powerhouse Chowrangi in Sector 11-K of New Karachi when he was returning home from duty. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police on January 18 arrested a student of Karachi's Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw (NED) University of Engineering and Technology over charges of "international terror financing", reports Dawn. “The CTD arrested Hafiz Mohammed Omer bin Khalid over international terror financing charges when he was trying to flee the city,” CTD Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Omar Shahid Hamid told a press conference at his office. According to Hamid, the held suspect is a final year student at the university. “He was involved in sending money to families of militants linked with the global [militant] Islamic State group in Syria,” said the officer. According to the CTD, Khalid used to provide cash to an associate, named Zia, in Hyderabad, who converted it into dollars before sending it to Syria. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on January 18 arrested a suspected Sindhudesh Liberation Army (SLA) cadre, identified as Ali aka Sunni, allegedly involved in bomb attacks on Rangers from the near Safora roundabout in Sacchal area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports ARY News. “He is involved in attacks on Rangers check-posts and vehicles,” the CTD Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Omar Shahid Hamid said while adding that the accused was attacking the vehicles of law enforcement agencies with hand grenades on the directives of his handler, Ali Asghar Shah. Two target killers were arrested during a raid conducted by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials in Federal Capital area of Karachi on January 21, reports ARY News. According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CTD Omar Shahid Hamid, the arrested assassins Zahid Ali and Waseem who are wanted in the assassination of a policeman and other serious crimes. The personnel of Counter Terrorism Department Operation 1 (CTD Op1) conducted a joint operation with the officials of an intelligence agency in Surjani Town of Karachi, the provincial capital Sindh, on January 27 and arrested the cadre of a banned militant outfit, Zainabiyoun Brigade, reports The Express Tribune. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on January 28 arrested two Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants from Qayyumabad area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on January 28, reports Dawn. “The suspects were arrested during a combing operation conducted in Qayyumabad,” said an official of the CTD. Three members of the Lyari gang war were arrested by the Rangers during separate operations in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on January 30, reports The Express Tribune. In an intelligence-based operation, carried out with the Police, the Paramilitary Force claimed, they arrested a most wanted Lyari gangster, Ismail alias Petra. According to a Rangers spokesperson, they had received a tip-off about Ismail - who had fled from Karachi - hiding in Mominabad in Orangi Town. The Rangers carried out a joint operation with the Police in the wee hours of January 30 and arrested Ismail from Mominabad. Later, Ismail was booked in cases of murder, attempted murder, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, Police encounter, sale of drugs and other crime. The Rangers arrested two suspected Lyari gangsters, identified as Ismail Patni and Sameer Shaikh, said to be working for an on the run Lyari gang war leader, Ahmed Ali Magsi on January 30, reports The Express Tribune. The arrests were made during joint operations with the Police, conducted in on the basis of tip-offs. The arrested men were caught with the help of CCTV footage, said a statement issued by the Rangers, adding that Patni and Shaikh had barged into the office of Crown Builders in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on December 7, 2020, demanded INR 5 million in extortion and given death threats, all the while brandishing a pistol and a hand grenade.
