India and Israel signed a number of agreements on cooperation in legal assistance and public and homeland security, The Times of India reports on February 28. The pacts are part of the ongoing efforts by both countries in the war against terror and are based on the shared determination to protect citizens, assets and interests. "We believe that these agreements are another important platform for the cooperation between our countries and we would like to express our appreciation for the leadership of the ministry of home affairs in this regard," Israel Ambassador in India Alon Ushpiz said. Israel's minister of public security Yitzhak Aharonovich said: "Today is an important day. These agreements that were signed are a fine example of our substantial and equal partnership with India. The various types and forms of threats the two countries face make this cooperation an indispensable one. Terror is a global threat and only through cooperation between allies can peace-seeking countries overcome such threats." Ushpiz further remarked: "The unconditional commitment we share with India to protect the lives of our citizens is the bedrock of these agreements. By joining hands in this important field, whether it is through technology or through investment in the crucial human resource, we will be able also to better ensure the continuing development of our societies and economies."

The Sangai Express reports on August 24 that promising all possible support to India’s fight against terrorism, Myanmar has said it will bust training camps of North East militant groups on its soil if India provides specific inputs about their existence. Asserting that his country will never allow any terror outfit to use its soil against India, Myanmar’s Information Minister U Ye Htut said his government will cooperate “fully” with the new Indian government in cracking down on militant bases, if there was any. “If India gives exact information about the location and other information (about the militant training camps), then Myanmar is ready to take action against them,” Htut told an interview. Myanmar, considered one of India’s strategic neighbors, shares a 1,640 km long border with a number of North Eastern states including militancy-infested Nagaland and Manipur. India has been raising with Myanmar the issue of several North East Militant outfits having training camps in that country and it was taken up again by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during her visit recently.

The Central Government has decided to implant special kind of fence over water along the riverine India-Bangladesh border to stop illegal immigration, reports Times of India on August 26. Replicating the Singapore 'skid marine hedge model', this floating fence will help to prevent immigrants trying to enter into the mainland of the country. According to an unnamed Border Security Force (BSF) official, there are two areas that needs to be addressed - the mapping of the riverine border and then the fencing of that border. "According to the instructions of the central government we have almost completed the mapping and have identified our area along the river and other water bodies. Now we are waiting for the sanction of funds so that the fencing portion can be done," the BSF officer said. Of the 3326 kilometers long border only 501 kilometers is left without fence of which 130 kilometers is land where barbed wire fencing is going on and the rest of the portion is covered with rivers and water bodies.
