Unidentified assailants fired at the residence of Prashanta Gogoi, President of Bharatiya Janata Party OBC Morcha (Other Backward Class wing of BJP), located at Milan Nagar in Dibrugarh District on January 3, reports The Sentinel. However, no one was injured in the firing incident. At the time of the incident, Prashanta Gogoi who had joined the BJP few months back, was stated to be in Guwahati for some personal work. The Police immediately rushed to the spot and reviewed the situation. No one has been arrested till the filing of this report.

Two Policemen were injured when suspected Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) militants attacked the convoy of Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Gaikhangam as he went visit his Khoupum Tampak residence in Noney District on February 21, reports The Sangai Express. Militants launched the first attack at around 7.50 am at Lubanglong Khunou (Namkaolong) Part II area along Old Cachar Road in Noney District. Then the militants carried out the second attack on a Police team which came from the direction of Rengpang near Irang River at around 8.30 am. No one was injured in the both the attacks but the Gypsy of the Police team suffered some damages. Later, the militants launched the third attack at Lubanglong Khunou Part II, some distance away from the spot where the first attack was launched, at around 12.30 pm when the Deputy CM was at his residence. One Police personnel identified as Yumnam Jinesh (34) was injured in this attack. After Deputy CM Gaikhangam had left his village for capital Imphal, militants attacked Police forces who were heading for Imphal for the fourth time at around 3 pm along Old Cachar Road near the spot where the first attack was carried out. One Police personnel, identified as Kh Bobo, injured in the attack.

Militants attacked the residence and official vehicle of Mohammad Yusuf Bhat, a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Shopian in two separate incidents, in the Shopian District on March 23, reports Daily Excelsior. Militants attacked the residence of MLA Bhat, at Memander in the District. Police said that militants fired several rounds at the residence of Bhat at Memander and the security guards deployed there retaliated. However, no one was injured in the attack. Earlier in the day, militants fired on his official bullet proof vehicle at Hajipora in Shopian. Several rounds of fire hit a Police bullet proof vehicles and his ambassador car. However, the MLA was not in his car at the time of attack. Police fired back but militants escaped.

Separately, Militants snatched five SLRs from the security guards at the ancestral house of Minister of State, Syed Farooq Indrabi, in Dooru area of Anantnag District on March 26, reports Daily Excelsior. A Police officer said that at least 13 militants including their Over Ground Workers (OGWs) attacked the ancestral residence of Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Hajj and Auqaf and Power Development Department, Syed Farooq Indrabi, at Shestargam in Dooru area of Anantnag District. One of the security guards, Gulzar Ahmad, of the Minister was injured in the attack. Senior Police and Army officers reached the spot and massive searches have been launched against the militants responsible for weapon snatching. However, Minister was not present at the residence at the time of the attack as this residence is mostly used by his father.

Suspected militants ransacked house of a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Sarpanch at Nagbal area in Shopian District on April 5, reports Daily Excelsior. A Police officer said that unidentified assailants knocked door of the house of Abdul Qayoom Sheikh at Urpora village of Nagbal in the Shopian yesterday at around 8.30 pm. “The door was, however, not opened from inside and these persons broke window panes and glasses of the house,” the officer said, adding that no one was, however, injured. He further said that it was not immediately known whether the Sarpanch was present inside his house. The official said the identity of the attackers has not been ascertained so far but sources said that they were suspected militants.

In a separate incident, militants fired upon Abdul Rashid Lone, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) worker, when he was coming out from a Masjid after offering prayers in Khanpura area of Baramulla town in Baramulla District on May 30 night, reports Daily Excelsior. The incident took place at 10:30 pm outside the Khanpura shrine. Lone’s nephew also suffered injuries in the attack. They were shifted to hospital. Lone had retired after serving the Jammu and Kashmir Electricity department and is a PDP worker. Senior Police and security officers reached the spot but militants fled away after carrying out the attack. This is the first attack on a political worker in North Kashmir this year.

A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) worker and former Sarpanch (village level local self- government institution head), identified as Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh was killed by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) militants in his house at Huomhuna village in Imam Sahib area of Shopian District on October 16 while one of the militant was killed by the sons of PDP worker in the scuffle, reports Daily Excelsior. Sources said that at least three HM militants barged into the house of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh in the night. As the militants called out PDP worker, his sons accompanied him but militants shot Sheikh wounding him critically. Sons of the PDP worker snatched rifle from one of the militants in scuffle and fired from it killing a militant of HM, identified as Shoukat Ahmad Kumar of Trenz Shopian. Sheikh was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Senior Police and Army officials reached the spot and massive searches have been launched against the other two militants, who managed to escape from the scene.

Militants lobbed a grenade at the residence of a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Aijaz Mir in Zainapora village in Shopian District on October 20, reports Daily Excelsior. The grenade landed in the premises near the security picket, outside the house, and exploded. However, there was no report of any damage to life or the property. The Policemen deployed for security duty fired several rounds in the air following the blast that created panic in the village. Soon after the incident, Security Forces (SFs) rushed to the spot and conducted searches. A Police officer said that no damage was caused due to the mysterious blast. “It was a mysterious blast. We are ascertaining what happened actually. No damage has been reported. But security men posted there have fired several round in air,” he said.

The Maoist rebels attacked supervisor Chandrakant, snatched CCTVs and monitors installed on the farmhouse premises at put up posters at various places in and around the farmhouse before leaving. The posters released bearing the name of Srikakulam-Koraput Divisional Committee (SKDC) of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the CPI-Maoist, warned Ishwar Panigrahi against encroachment of tribal land, employing outsiders in his farmhouse as well as abuse of tribal workers. The posters also threatened the ruling party leader with dire consequences demanding a minimum wage of INR 200 and maximum 8 hours of working per day for the workers. They also demanded protection of the tribal rights on forest and land resources in the area.
