Some unidentified persons attacked the residence of Health Minister Langpok-lakpam Jayanta located at Pishumthong in Imphal West District by hurling a hand grenade which exploded near the gate on January 1, reports The Sangai Express. The attack was carried by two bikers at around 6.20 pm (local time). The shrapnels of the bomb injured one Memcha Devi from Pishumthong. It also damaged two vehicles which were parked near gate.

The legislator was returning after inaugurating the chief minister's Kanyadan Yojana at Harta Middle School in the District when the incident took place. The second one was recovered from the residence of Takhellambam Koshi, a Congress worker from Ngaikhong Khullen bazaar in Bishnupur District. The third grenade was found at the residence of Chingkham Tomba who is also said to be an INC worker in Bishnupur District. The fourth one was found in the courtyard of Moirangthem Borajaoba from Lamlai Makha Leikai, who is also said to be a congress worker in Imphal East District. A hand written note with a caution not to get involved in the forthcoming election was found near the grenade.

Four Maoists went to the house of K. Venkat Reddy (45), also a former vice-sarpanch (deputy head of Panchayat, a village level local self-Government institution), and called him out. After holding a brief conversation over a land dispute Venkat Reddy had with a villager, the Maoists shot him dead. Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Lingama Habika (35), a top leader, and Kameya Habika (30), allegedly involved in the abduction of Laxmipur Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Jhina Hikaka, were arrested in Narayanpatna Block of Koraput District on November 25, reports The Hindu. According to Devadutta Singh, Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police, South-West R ange, and Avinash Kumar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Koraput, the two Maoists were arrested at Dumbaguda village. Both of them were part of the hardcore militia group of Srikakulam-Koraput Joint Divisional Committee of the Maoists. Apart from it, they were also prominent members of the Maoist-backed Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) of Narayanpatna area. Both were close to CMAS leader Nachika Linga, who is in the most wanted list of both Odisha and Andhra Police. Commenting on the arrest, Koraput Superintendent of Police (SP), Avinash Kumar said "They were arrested from their homes. They have confessed to their involvement in the MLA's abduction and over two dozen Maoist attacks. Interrogation is on," reports The Times of India.

Even as tight security has been put in place in Imphal and greater Imphal areas for the high profile visit of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Rahul Gandhi on December 10, two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained injuries when a car fitted bomb exploded at Koubru Leikha along National Highway-2 under Sapermaina Police Station in Senapati District in the morning of December 9. The spot where the bomb blast occurred is located at about 25 kilometres from Imphal. The injured personnel have been identified as constables T Anand Raj of Tamil Nadu and Abdul Rajaq of West Bengal. Two suspects have been detained for interrogation in connection with the incident. The Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) in a statement claimed that two People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cadres involved in the blast have been arrested. The two persons have been identified as T Suranjoy Singh and T Somendro Singh of Imphal East.
