Army on January 3 foiled an infiltration bid by a group of militants in Hamirpur area of Bhimber Gali Brigade in Rajouri District, reports Greater Kashmir. Official said that Army soldiers posted in the BG Brigade, the area also referred as 'forward Balakote sector' "noticed an infiltration attempt by a group of infiltrators. The infiltrators were challenged with an explosion triggered on the spot to foil this attempt". Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on January 3 killed a Pakistani "intruder" in Arnia sector along the International Border (IB) in Jammu District, reports Greater Kashmir. An unnamed official said that the BSF troops manning the border outpost Balley Chak opposite to BP No 978 noticed a "suspicious activity in the forward area". “The troops challenged the intruder but he did not stop compelling them to open fire,” the official said adding the intruder was killed on the spot. The BSF seized a consignment of arms and heroin along the IB near the Chamliyal border outpost in Samba District on January 3, reports Daily Excelsior. The consignment was found packed in a white-coloured sack hidden in sarkanda (wild grass) near the Chamliyal border outpost. The officials said the seizure included three AK rifles along with five magazines, four pistols along with seven magazines, five packets of heroin and some assorted ammunition. Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a local top commander from Bandipora District, were killed in separate incidents in Shalimar and Gasu areas of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 3, reports Greater Kashmir. Based on specific input generated by Police regarding presence of terrorist in Shalimar area, a search operation was launched by Srinagar Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants including a local militant killed in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) in Chandgam village of Pulwama District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 5, reports Greater Kashmir. "Acting on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in village Chandgam area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 55RR and 182Bn CRPF in the said area, " a Police spokesman said. "During the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter, " he added. Police on January 6 neutralised a “hybrid module” of The Resistance Front (TRF) outfit in Bagat Barzulla area of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), by arresting two militants and two of their associates, reports Greater Kashmir. Among arrested terrorists, Suhail Qadir Khanday S/O Ghulam Qadir Khanday R/O Tral Pulwama, Suhail Mushtaq S/O Mushtaq Ahmed Waza R/O Niklora, are active terrorist, while their associates are identified as Basit Bilal Makaya S/O Bilal Ahmed Makaya R/O Qamar Abad Qamarwari and Naikoo Imad Nasar S/O Farooq Ahmed Bhat R/O Kiloora Shopian. Three Jash-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants including two foreigners were killed and an Army officer was injured in an encounter in Zolwa Chadoora area of Budgam District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the morning of January 7, reports Daily Excelsior. Based on a specific input generated by Police regarding presence of militants in Zolwa Chadoora area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Security Forces (SFs) in the evening of January 6. “During the search operation, as the presence of militants was ascertained they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter. The SF evacuated the civilians trapped around the encounter site. “To avoid any collateral damage due to darkness, the operation was suspended during night hours”, an official said. However, in the wee hours, the operation resumed, resulting in the killing of three militants of JeM. An Army officer received minor splinter injury. One of the killed militants has been identified as Waseem Mir son of Ghulam Qadir Mir, resident of Nowgam Srinagar, who was active since December 2020. Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a journalist identified as Sajad Gul for allegedly instigating people to “resort to violence and disturb public peace”, reports Greater Kashmir on January 8. According to Police, Sajad had “uploaded the objectionable videos with anti-national slogans raised by some women folk on the day when most wanted terrorist Saleem Parray was eliminated in Shalimar Srinagar". Further Police stated that Sajad operates a twitter account in the name of Sajad Gull and is always propagating against the government and uploads tweets not based on facts in order to provoke the people against Govt and to spread animosity, ill will among the people and against the Nation. Two Al-Badr militants were killed in an encounter at Hasanpora village in Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 10, reports Daily Excelsior. A gunfight broke out between militants and Security Forces (SFs) in Hasanpora in the afternoon of January 9. In the ensuing encounter, two Al-Badr militants were killed and their bodies retrieved from the site. They have been identified as Imad Muzaffar Wani, resident of Arigam of Pulwama and Abdur Rashid Tokher, resident of Hasanpora. Police said that they were part of groups involved in several militancy cases including attacks on SFs and civilians. Asserting that Army is resolved to show "zero tolerance" to militancy and is committed to extracting "dire costs" for it, Army Chief General MM Naravane on January 12 said that as many as 350-400 militants are present at the launchpads and training camps in Pakistan controlled Kashmir (PoK), reports Kashmir Observer. Addressing a press conference ahead of the Army Day, he said the concentration of some 350 to 400 militants in launch pads and training facilities on the other side (Pakistani side) of the Line of Control (LoC) and repeated infiltration attempts "expose" the "nefarious intents" of the adversary. At the same time, he said last year's ceasefire understanding between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Indian and Pakistani armies resulted in some improvement in the situation along the LoC. The Border Security Force (BSF) has deployed additional troops along with anti-fog surveillance equipment on the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) as part of its "winter strategy" to foil infiltration bids and militant plans ahead of Republic Day celebrations, reports Kashmir Observer on January 21. Daily Excelsior quoting an unnamed official in the Ministry of Home Affairs reported on January 24 that Border Security Force (BSF) will soon be procuring handheld ‘Anti Drone Guns’ to prevent Pakistani drones from entering Indian Territory. The official said that a Draft Qualitative Requirement (QRS) have been forwarded by BSF in this regard. Inspector General (IG) of Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir frontier Raja Babu Singh on January 24 said that though the "overall situation on Kashmir LoC [Line of Control] remained peaceful" post February 2021 ceasefire agreement, " the fresh intelligence inputs suggest that 104 to 135 militants are ready to sneak into this side”. “Some guides have crossed over to the other side of LoC and their movement and their families are under constant watch of security agencies," he said. Militants fired upon a Policeman at SD Colony Batamaloo in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 28, reports Daily Excelsior. A Police official said that militants fired upon the Police constable at Batamaloo, however, the Policeman escaped unhurt. Three persons were arrested by the Indian Army at the Shuhama area of Hadura in Ganderbal District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 28, reports Daily Excelsior. Indian Army informed, “Joint mobile vehicle check post was established today at Shuhama, Hadura in Ganderbal district. On being signalled to stop, three persons tried to escape but were apprehended along with two pistols, three magazines and two Chinese grenades.” The arrested trio were identified as Faisal Manzoor, resident of Braripora in Shopian, Azhar Yaqoob, resident of Zaipora in Shopain and Nasir Ahmad Dar, resident of Begam in Kulgam. Two Chinese Pistols, 3 Pistol Magazines, 15 rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades besides three mobile phones were recovered. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of Police and Army destroyed an alleged explosive material in Shindra area of Poonch District on January 29, reports Greater Kashmir. A Police official said that a suspected bag was found in village Shindra area of Poonch District. Kashmir zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar on January 30 termed the killing of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) chief Zahid Wani in an encounter as “one of the big successes”, adding that efforts were being made to bring down the active militant number to one hundred, reports Greater Kashmir. General officer Commanding (GoC) Prashant Srivastava said that the killing of Zahid "neutralises the threat of JeM in south Kashmir." IGP Vijay Kumar said: “As we have said earlier that it is for the first time that the number of terrorists has come down below 200. We tried our best to get it below 100 this year,” he said, adding that as far as the arms are concerned, there are various routes to sneak them in. “You have seen in Jammu region, there were 35 attempts in which drones were seized. Many arms came via drones, they come by road as well, sometimes through infiltration. So, there are a lot of ways. Security Forces (SFs) conducted Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) in two areas of Shopian District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 30, reports Greater Kashmir. A Police official said that columns of Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Police surrounded a cluster of houses in Dalal Mohalla locality of Shopian town and carried out a door-to-door search operation. The official said that at around 5.30 pm, the SFs ring-fenced Kumdalan village and carried out a search operation. "The searches were conducted after the forces were tipped off about the presence of militants in the locality", said the official. One Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Shabir Ahmad, was injured in a militant attack in the Amshipora area of Shopian District in Jammu and Kashmir on January 31, reports Greater Kashmir. “Today at about 1745hrs Shopian Police received information about a terror crime incident at Amshipora area of Shopian where terrorists had fired upon Police personnel.
