Ten overground workers (OGWs) of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were arrested by the State Investigation Agency (SIA), a newly carved-out wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, during overnight raids at various locations in South and Central District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on February 15, reports Daily Excelsior. The officials said the 10 people, who were working independently or as ‘sleeper cells’ of the banned terror group, were identified during a probe carried out by the SIA. Neither of them was aware about each other’s activities and were taking instructions from JeM terrorist commanders directly. “The module, whose members were organised into sub-modules in the form of verticals so that in the event of detection of one member, the bigger network does not get compromised, had been painstakingly discovered through discreet surveillance, in which corroborative intelligence capable of being converted into admissible evidence in court was used to ascertain and confirm the JeM membership of these individuals,” one of the officials said. Those arrested were active in recruiting young people, arranging finances, and transporting weapons in south and central Kashmir, besides providing other logistic support. During searches, cell phones, SIM cards, records to show use of banking channels and even a dummy pistol were seized. Among those arrested is a person at whose house four terrorists were killed on April 4, 2020, the officials added.

The Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on February 26 said that rare type of chemical in liquid form has been recovered from the militants for the first time in Arnia on February 25 as he charged the neighbouring country, without naming Pakistan, for trying to keep alive the dying militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, reports Daily Excelsior. Speaking to media persons at Udhampur, DGP Dilbag Singh said in the consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives sent from drone on February 25 and seized at Arnia, chemical in liquid form has been found for the first time and efforts are on to ascertain its nature. Asserting that the neighbour continued mischief by sending consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives, the DGP Dilbag Singh said the good thing is that they are being seized before falling into hands of the militants. “The neighbour has long history of hatching conspiracies to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir. The militancy is dying but they want to keep it alive. They are sending militants and consignments of weapons through tunnels, drones etc but such attempts are being successfully thwarted,” Dilbag Singh added. In 2021, he pointed out, 182 militants were killed but number of weapons recovered was more than 300 which indicated that the neighbour wants to make more militants in J&K. “Pakistan is also trying to overcome shortage of weapons by sending consignments through drones but our team network and Physical Security Grid are doing good job and recovering the weaponry,” the DGP added further.
