On December 1, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested terrorist, Harpreet Singh alias Happy Malaysia, resident of Miadi Kala Village in Ajnala Tehsil (revenue unit) of Amritsar District in Punjab from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, when he arrived from Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia, in NIA Case RC -01/22/NIA/DLI, reports NIA. The case pertains to the bomb blast that took place in the Ludhiana Court Building on December 23, 2021. One person died and six persons were injured in the explosion. Investigations revealed that Harpreet Singh, an associate of Lakhbir Singh Rode, Pakistan-based Chief of International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF), was one of the conspirators of Ludhiana Court Building blast, alongwith Rode. Acting on the directions of Rode, he coordinated the delivery of the custom-made Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which had been sent from Pakistan, to his India based associates, that was used in the Ludhiana Court Complex blast. The arrested accused was also involved and wanted in various cases, including smuggling of explosives, arms and narcotics. Earlier, the NIA had declared a reward of INR one million on Harpreet Singh.

The meeting focused on three significant technologies: 1. The Internet and social media; 2. New payment technologies and fundraising methods and 3. Unmanned Aerial System, including drones (UAS). The 11 persons identified are: Mohammad Riyaz Attari, Ghous Mohammad, Mohsin Khan, Asif Hussain, Mohammad Mohsin, Wasim Ali, Farhad Mohammad Sheikh, Mohammed Javed, Muslim Khan, and Pakistani nationals Salman and Abu Ibrahim, both residents of Karachi. The NIA stated that the accused had arranged knives and arms and murdered Kanhaiya Lal in reaction to one of his social media posts in his shop. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has said in its charge sheet over the killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli in Udaipur that Salman, member of Karachi-based organisation Dawat-e-Islami, contacted Mohammad Gous via WhatsApp immediately after Nupur Sharma’s controversial remarks, asking him to avenge the insult to Prophet Mohammed, prompting the accused to plan the brutal attack, reports Hindustan Times on December 24. Salman and another member of Dawat-e-Islami, Abu Ibrahim, both based in Karachi, have been named in the NIA charge sheet, filed in a Jaipur court on December 22. Dawat-e-Islami has also been named in the charge sheet, but not in the accused column, according to an unnamed officer. Gous, the officer said, first met Salman during his visit to Pakistan in February 2014 and they were in touch since then. “They were in touch through WhatsApp. Salman asked Gous and Riyaz Attri to avenge the insult to Prophet after which the two attackers planned the killing,” said the officer. Earlier, South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) had reported the incident, on June 28, Kanhaiya Lal Teli, a Hindu tailor, was murdered by two attackers, reportedly having links with Islamic State, in Udaipur in Rajasthan.

Earlier it was reported by SATP on December 20, that National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested nine persons in connection with an illegal drugs and arms case pertaining to the revival of the LTTE. The NIA in a note said that the case pertains to the activities of the Sri Lankan drug mafia controlled by Gunashekaran and Pushparajah in association with Haji Salim, a drugs and arms supplier based in Pakistan. This module has been operating in India and Sri Lanka and has been smuggling drugs and arms in a bid to fund the revival of the LTTE.

Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in a joint operation with Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), apprehended a Pakistani boat, Al Soheli on December 26 with 10 crew in Indian waters carrying arms, ammunition and approximately 40 kgs of Narcotics worth INR 300 crores, reports The Print. Ahmedabad Mirror adds that they were caught off Okha coast. According to official statement, “During the intervening night of 25/26 Dec 22, on a specific intelligence input, ICG strategically deployed its Fast Patrol class of ship ICGS Arinjay for patrolling in an area close to the notional International Maritime Border Line (IMBL). During the early hours of Monday, 26 Dec 2022, a Pakistani Fishing Boat Al Soheli was observed moving suspiciously in Indian waters”. The statement also mentioned that this was the seventh joint operation by ICG and ATS, Gujarat in the last 18 months and the first apprehension wherein arms and ammunition along with drugs were being infiltrated. “During the mentioned period, a total 346 kgs of heroin worth Rs 1,930 crores has already been seized along with apprehension of 44 Pakistani and 7 Iranian crew,” statement said.

The arrested were identified as Mubarak, a native of Edavanakkad; Zulfi, a PFI worker; Sudhir and his brother Salim, both hailing from Karamana. The development comes following a state-wide raid that was conducted by the NIA in the houses of PFI's second-rung leaders to unveil terror funding and alleged anti-national activities by the outfit. The NIA stated the searches led to the recovery and seizure of sharp-edged weapons, incriminating material and digital devices, further reports Newsdeal. A maximum of 13 places were searched in Eranakulam, nine in Kannur, seven in Malappuram, six in Wayanad, four in Kozhikode, three each in Trivandrum, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha, two each in Thrissur and Kottayam and one in Palakkad, an NIA spokesperson stated.

The search operation was underway at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Idukki and other places in Kerala. The Union Minstry of Home Affairs (UMHA) stated that "international linkages of PFI with Global Terrorist Groups", and that some activists of the outfit have joined the Islamic State and participated in terror activities in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. The UMHA further stated some of these PFI cadres linked to Islamic State have been killed in these conflict theatres and some have been arrested by State Police and Central Agencies also the PFI has linkages with Jamat-ul-Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB), a proscribed terrorist organization.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed the charge sheet in a special NIA court in Hyderabad on December 30 against 11 Popular Front of India (PFI) activists, who were arrested from Nizamabad in Telangana for suspectedly organizing terror training camps and recruiting people for carrying out terror activities, reports The Statesman. Those named in the charge sheet are Abdul Khader, Abdul Ahad, Abdul Saleem, Shaik Shadullah, Feroz Khan, Mohammad Osman, Syed Yahiya Sameer, Shaik Imran, Abdul Mubeen and Mohammad Irfan of Telangana, and Shaik Iliyas Ahmed of Andhra Pradesh as reported by Hindustan Times. According to NIA investigations, the accused were running training camps under the guise of Yoga classes or beginner’s course for physical education where the youths were trained to use everyday articles such as knives, sickles and iron rods to kill people by targeting vulnerable body parts such as throat, head or stomach and for committing acts of terror. The eleven arrested PFI members have been charged under UAPA for organizing terror training camps and recruitment of persons for terrorist acts. They were accused of radicalizing gullible Muslim youths and recruiting them through speeches filled with hatred and venom against the Government of India as well as other organizations and individuals.

The accused was associated with active elements of AQIS and JMB, namely Mudassir and Abu Talha, Ehsan and Mufakkir. They used to propagate jihadi ideology amongst the people and propagate to establish Sharia law in the country by connecting people with the ideology of AQIS and JMB.
