The Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) was exploded through a remote-controlled device when people were celebrating New Year Day around 5.30am. A team of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area before launching a search operation. Unidentified armed persons suspected to be cadres of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) robbed a passenger bus carrying a consignment of betel leaves at Maram Centre in Senapati District on January 3, reports The Sangai Express. The passenger bus was travelling from Guwahati to Imphal. After stopping the bus, the armed persons pulled down betel leaves put inside five plastic buckets. It is suspected that the armed cadres confiscated the betel leaves in connection with monetary demand.

The Sangai Express reports that out of 25 assorted weapons taken away by five cadres of Kuki National Organization/Kuki Liberation Army (KNO/KLA) when they fled from their designated Samushang Camp (Imphal), Security Forces (SFs) have recovered 18 weapons from Twichin village in Senapati District under Lamlai Police Station in the night of January 30. The recovered arms include four AK 56 rifles, two AK 47 rifles, two AK 22 rifles, one AK rifle (foldable butt), two M-16 rifles, one M-21 rifle, one M-15,/AR rifle, two SLRs, one G-3 rifle, one HK rifle and one lethod gun. These arms are suspected to have been removed from Samushang Camp, which houses cadres of KNO/KLA under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact. Significantly five cadres of KNO/KLA fled from their designated camp taking along with them 25 assorted weapons in the night of January 2.

The rebels were accorded 'capital punishment' by senior cadres of the outfit in the midnight of January 31 for their alleged attempt to desert the organization's camp at a Kuki-dominated area in Senapati District and to form a separate faction.
