Army stated that he was passing sensitive information about Security Forces and suggesting targets for extortion to ULFA-I. Moreover he had passed information about Chabua Air Force station, Oil and Gas Cooperation (ONGC), North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) and other government installations to ULFA-I militant identified as Bhaskar Gogoi alias Astitwa Asom. According Army sources, Swarup was tasked by ULFA-I to collect information on aviation-carrying turbine fuel (ATF) tankers entering Chabua Air Force station to plan placing Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on ATF tankers entering the air base. Additionally, sources stated that an oil tanker bound for Dikom storage unloading point had crashed at the railway track barricades, adjacent to the fencing of the air force station on January 13. Although the driver claimed it was an accident, security agencies have not ruled out involvement of ULFA-I.

Another member of the racket identified as Nurul Hussain had facilitated both—Kajol and Chandan to print the FICN at his residence. At present, Nurul Hussain is absconding. An ‘agent’ had been offered INR 40,000 to INR 60,000 for FICNs worth a lakh. Once the FICNs reached Assam, a large portion goes to Uttar Pradesh and different States in Southern India, said an unnamed Police official.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested 3 more Nagaland state government officials in connection with an investigation pertaining to monetary collection on behalf of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K), reports Morung express on March 25. The arrested officials included a Director of the Department of Agriculture, an Executive Engineer of the Department of Rural Development and a Divisional Accounts Officer of the Department of Urban Development. According to an official release, the officials face charges of ‘providing substantial amount to NSCN (K) by way of contributing Government funds’.The release also said that the officials had also paid money to other Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) during 2012-2016. The arrest of the three officials and others before them began after the NIA arrested two NSCN-K cadres in 2016 which subsequently resulted in a paper trail.
