Quoting official sources, media reports added that the encounter took place when a group of armed terrorists had been trying to sneak into Tapadarenchi. While one terrorist had been injured and arrested subsequently, the others managed to escape in the cover of darkness. Police recovered a Chinese-made hand grenade from the arrested terrorist.

A group of NLFT terrorists, allegedly in association with some "Bangladeshi criminals", shot dead a local businessman and his son in Assam Basti area of North Tripura district. His daughter who was injured in the attack died before she could be admitted to a hospital. The terrorists also abducted the businessman's nephew. A combined team of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, led by the district police chief Jaydeb Das searched the area following the incident and arrested a Bangladeshi national in this connection.

In continuing ethnic violence, one terrorist was killed and a police personnel injured while 50 Dimasa houses were set ablaze in the Cachar district of Assam on June 16, said official sources. Approximately 70 Hmar Peoples Convention (HPC-Democratic) terrorists reportedly attacked the Dipucherra Dimasa village, abandoned by the villagers recently, and set ablaze at least 50 houses, they said. A police team from Joypur police station later encountered the HPC-D terrorists when they were about to escape, killing one of them while one Sub-Inspector of Police sustained injuries. However, rest of the terrorists managed to escape into the nearby forests. Security forces cordoned off the area and have launched a combing operation to arrest the terrorists and also prevent them from crossing over to other areas. One person has been arrested thus far in connection with this incident.

Three United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) terrorists were killed following an encounter with police at Srirampur under Tamarhat police station limits in Kokrajhar district of Assam on August 6. One more terrorist was arrested following the encounter. According to the official sources, the terrorists had abducted two civilians from Kamandanga village and subsequently held them hostage inside the house of a local resident at Srirampur. After securing definite information, the police cordoned off the house and the encounter ensued. One of the hostages also received bullet injuries during the encounter.
