Security Forces (SFs) in Bangladesh have reportedly arrested two top militants, All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) ‘chief’ Ranjit Debbarma and National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) ‘chief’ Biswamohan Debbarma from Dhaka (Dhaka District) in December 2012, according to The Times of India. Police intelligence officials in Agartala (Tripura) on January 4 said Ranjit was arrested from a posh location in Dhaka on December 30 and Biswamohan on December 23 last from nearby areas. Both the militant leaders were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The RAB members, after receiving specific information, surrounded the flats in Dhaka and arrested the militant leaders, a source said. According to reports, they have been living in Dhaka for the past two decades. Their arrest comes mere months after Indian Border Security Force (BSF) submitted a list of militant hideouts to Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB).

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team on January 8 arrested Moinul Haque, former ‘president’ of All BTC Minority Students Union (ABMSU) for his role in the killing of four Bodo youths on July 20, 2012, at Joypur in Kokrajhar District. Two of his associates, identified as Jahanuddin Sheik and Jakhir Ali, were also arrested. Altogether 22 people have been arrested by the CBI in connection with the case. The CBI has earlier arrested five people in September 2012, six in December 2012 and eight persons on January 5, 2013. Official sources said that the BSF arrested two cadres of GNLA, identified as Nowel Momin and Arbin Marak, from the Borsora area in West Khasi Hills Districts after receiving reports of GNLA activities in the area. Both originally hail from Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills District. Through information provided by the two cadres, the BSF along with Meghalaya Police carried out a joint operation in Horupukni village in Mawsynram to arrest the third militant, Sukumar R Sangma. According to the Police, the arrested criminals were part of the gang, which abducted a Guwahati city based businessman, Rajib Sharma when he had gone to Byrnihat in Meghalaya on February 1. Later, the family of the businessman received a call on January 3 by suspected National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) militants asking for a ransom of INR 10 million for the trader’s release. He said the arms were delivered to Thanglem by some unidentified person(s), who came in an unregistered Maruti van and sped away after delivering. The two IEDs were fitted inside a iron rod along with two electric detonators and two bed switches, two charged demolition M112, four circuits, one battery cell, six electronic detonators, one remote control set and two mobile handsets. The commander in chief was identified as Thairying Hakamausa alias Rohit Hakamausa alias Sujit Hakamausa (29) while his accomplice was identified as “private” Ujjal Thousan (26). Police recovered a 7.67 pistol, one magazine and five live rounds. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-Special Branch, Israel Xuiv said that Sujit had extorted INR 290,000 from Dimapur and was suspected to be involved in many unreported cases like extortion and abduction in Dimapur. He said that DNLF was established in 2009 and has around 40-50 cadres. Sujit had also given INR 200,000 in advance to “someone” for procuring arms, Israel said. Meanwhile, Israel said as per the record, Sujit had escaped from a jail in Dima Hasao District of Assam in August 2012 after he was arrested in July 2012 from Guwahati.

Mizoram Police's Superintendant of Police, CID (Crime), Joseph Lalchhuana, said acting on a tip off, they seized 23 AK-47 rifles, 1 LMG and 1 Browning rifle on March 7. He added that another seizure was made on March 8 after interrogation of the three arrested persons identified as Robi Chakma, Soboz Chakma and Moni Tripura, suspected to be members of a militant outfit in Bangladesh. Lalchhuana added that 8 AK-47 assault rifles and 809 rounds of ammunition were seized in the second raid which was conducted at a place which is near the first spot of seizure. The militants intended to take the arms across the border to Bangladesh for their cadres.

Security Forces (SFs) on March 16 arrested a Dima Jadi Naiso Army (DJNA) militant, Thomas Daulagapu, from upper Mahandijua village under Manja Police Station in Karbi Anglong District, reports Nagaland Post. In a confessional statement given to Manja Police, Thomas Daulagapu revealed that around 30 DJNA cadres were receiving training in NSCN-K camp. The arrested cadre told Manja police that DJNA was to pay a huge sum to NSCN-K for “imparting training and arming the group.” The arrested cadre admitted that the newly formed outfit was also active in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district for collecting fund by “means of extortion.” Thomas said a former Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) cadre Runit Jidung engaged him to send out extortion notices to various individuals and organizations. He revealed that Runit was supposed to receive 20% of the total collection.
