The recent success of Security Forces against the multiple militant outfits operating in the five Garo Hills Districts is due to the new combat strategies where the State Police special weapons and tactics (SWAT) and the specialized Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) units of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) could lay base insides the Durama forest range spread across West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills during Operation Hill Storm, reports The Sentinel on September 5. Durama forest range is known to be a Safe haven for various militant groups including GNLA and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). Director General of Police (DGP) PJP Hannaman stated that “There are 10 SWAT guys and 50 COBRA men in each unit staying in each overran location and ready for any fresh operations”. He also added that “the senior leaders of outfits have lost all contacts amongst themselves after they were force to scamper for new hideouts and they resorted to such mindless activities to sustain themselves and their own new recruits”. Operation Hill Storm was launched in July of this year.

Meanwhile, GNLA senior cadre Savio Marak stated that “Sohan is our leader and he believes that all criticisms are pouring in because of false Police stories.
