Four left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Praja Pratighatana group, including a woman, were killed in an encounter with police near Kanegudem village, Warangal district, on May 1. Official sources said the encounter took place when a police party, on a combing operation, spotted some Naxalites on the outskirts of the village and asked them to surrender. The Naxalites ignored the warning and opened fire at the police, who retaliated killing four Naxals on the spot. Four kitbags, a rifle and literature of Praja Pratighatna were recovered from the encounter site.

Repeated threats from Naxalites of the People’s War Group (PWG) have forced several lower-level leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to resign from their party posts in Kamareddy division, Nizamabad district. According to media reports, there is a panic due to the killing of Tadwai mandal (administrative unit) TDP president, Baddham Narsa Reddy, and Linapet BJP leader Sivakumar by Naxalites of the PWG, on March 15 and April 27 respectively. Reports said the BJP Kamareddy town president Arkela Prabhakar, vice-president C Ramesh, BJP municipal floor leader M Krishna Goud, TDP mandal in-charge Samala Shankar and several others submitted their resignation.

Police sources said approximately 12 Naxalites entered the residence of Shaik Subhani and killed him while he was asleep. The Naxalites also left behind letter in which they stated Subhani was a member of a gang, which raped and murdered a minor girl in February 2000. The same group of Naxalites went to another house in the colony and dragged K Nagarjuna in to the nearby fields and later killed him. In another letter, Naxalites said Nagarjuna had been acting as a police informer for the last five years.

Left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) triggered a blast at Pullampet railway station, Cuddapah district, on May 5. Official sources said approximately 12 armed Naxalites of the PWG stormed the railway station and informed the Assistant Station Master and other staff that the station was being blasted and sent them out. The Naxalites handed over a letter in the name of People's Joint Action Committee Team of Cuddapah-Chittoor district joint committee, which said that the action was in protest against ‘fake encounters’ by the police. Later, they blasted the Station Master’s room, ticket-booking room and the signaling equipment. The railway authorities have put the loss of property at approximately Rupees 1.8 million.

The encounter occurred when a police party, on a tip off, raided the hideout of Naxalites and asked them to surrender. The Naxalites opened fire at the police party. The latter returned the fire killing two Naxalites on the spot. A rifle, a 8 mm revolver and some Naxalite literature were recovered from the encounter site.

Left wing extremists–Naxalites of the People's War Group (PWG) on May 31 set off an explosion at the house of a local Telegu Desam Party (TDP) leader at Bodevandlapalle village, under Yerravaripalem police station limits in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, a 10-member dalam (squad), including four women, attacked the house of the leader who is a contractor too and blasted his house after forcing the inmates out.
