According to Deccan Chronicle, senior Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) 'Polit Bureau' and 'central committee' member and chief of its 'central-eastern regional bureau' monitoring the political affairs in Orissa and Chhattisgarh, B. Narayan Sanyal alias Navin, was arrested at Bhadrachalam in the Khammam district on January 3. Police sources said that the 68-year-old Sanyal was arrested while he was on his way to meet Maoist 'Dandakaranya Committee secretary' Ramakrishna. Khammam Superintendent of Police, R.K. Meena, said that a 9 mm pistol, Rs 13,200 cash, a walkie-talkie and some literary material was recovered from Sanyal. Sanyal, who is in the most wanted list of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa police, is a bomb expert and is accused in 21 cases, including the October 2003 Alipiri blast that targeted former Chief Minister N. According to Hindu, cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) triggered a series of landmine blasts targeting a police party combing the forests of Murmur village in the Wajeedu area of Khammam district on January 13. However, at least 20 police personnel who took part in the operation escaped unhurt. Superintendent of Police Rajeev Kumar Meena said five landmines were blasted by the Maoists.
