Speaking at a meeting with representatives of all political parties and voluntary organizations in Bangalore, capital of Karnataka, on April 24, the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil advocated a dialogue with the left-wing extremist (also known as Naxalite) outfits in Karnataka rather than the use of force. "The Government is not interested in using weapons. They (the Naxalites) are our brothers and sisters and we know that this is a socio-economic problem than one of law and order. We can solve this problem through dialogue and discussions. But when the talks are taking place, if some people move about with arms and terrorise people, that is not correct," the Home Minister said. He also indicated that Naxalite activities in Karnataka have not increased as much as in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
