On May 16, a left-wing extremist (also known as Naxalite) cadre of the 'Maddileru platoon' of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), Hanumantha Reddy alias Diwakar, was killed during an encounter with the police between Katnekalva village and Bukkacherla in the Anantapur district. According to the police, Diwakar had led the seven-member team which had killed the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activist, K.M. Sanaullah, on May 15-night.
