The police arrested two senior left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and four Revolutionary Writers' Association (Virasam) members at Arsapally on the outskirts of Nizamabad town on June 2. The arrested Naxalites were identified as CPI-Maoist 'State Committee member', Ganti Prasadam alias Prabhakar, and the former 'District Committee Secretary' of Cuddapah, Yamasani Surender alias Venkanna. The Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police, Anjani Kumar, said the police arrested them when they were moving suspiciously at Arspally village. Some revolutionary and party literature, important documents relating to party affairs and meetings in the Nallamala region and Rupees 56,780 in cash were recovered from them, the DIG disclosed.

The Hindu reports that on June 5, the left wing extremist (also known as Naxalite) Communist Party of India-Maoist's (CPI-Maoist) 'platoon area commander', Suresh, in a telephonic statement in Guntur district asked all political leaders from the Congress, Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party to resign from their posts by June 15 or face consequences. On June 7, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen stated that in 2005, 473 left wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) belonging to different outfits had surrendered, as against 396 in 2004 and 1035 in 2003. He said 349 naxals were arrested this year till date, as against 4000 in 2004 and 2000 in 2003. Further, Sen said this year 69 encounters had taken place and 76 naxals were killed, as against 73 encounters and 52 naxals in 2004 and 173 encounters and 175 naxals in 2003. He said 14 police personnel including some home guards were killed this year. Likewise, 240 weapons were recovered this year, as against 107 in 2004 and 287 in 2003. Similarly, the police recovered 9285 rounds of ammunition this year, as against 1463 rounds in 2004 and 5896 rounds in 2003. Further, Sen said "at least one third of the police stations in the State are unarmed and vulnerable to attacks." Out of 1,585 police stations, 500 do not have weapons and they are not armed. Reacting to the attack by the Naxalites on Kukkunur police station at Khammam on June 6 where the police personnel were unarmed, DGP Sen said, "We are here not to protect the police stations. The main duty of the police is to serve". Sen however, added, "We will soon arm all the stations appropriately."
