The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) has renewed its extortion campaign in south Assam, particularly in the North Cachar Hills district, reports said, on September 30. The reports added that police seized several extortion notes after a raid at an NSCN -IM hideout near Bagetar railway station. The demand notes were reportedly meant for an assistant director and a joint director of the Animal Husbandry and Health departments respectively, and an executive engineer of the Public Works Department. However, Police sources claimed that this was the first time that NSCN-IM terrorists were directly running an extortion network. The NSCN-IM earlier had entrusted the task of extortion to the Assam-based Dima Halim Daogah (DHD) terrorists.
