According to Sentinel, unidentified militants set ablaze 300 houses in different villages in and around Diphu in the Karbi Anglong district on December 4. The State Government, meanwhile, has deployed army personnel in the district instructing them to "mount an offensive on militant groups indulging in violence as well as to enforce the ground rules of ceasefire." On December 4, Chief Secretary S. Kabilan said that operations under the Unified Command have already started and shoot-at-sight orders have been issued against any person, other than security personnel, found wearing army uniform and carrying arms. The United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) and Dima Halim Daogah (DHD) cadres have been asked to remain within their designated camps, he added.

On December 6, two militants belonging to the Jewel Garlossa faction of the Dima Halim Daogah (DHD) were killed in an encounter at Retzol near Haflong in the North Cachar (NC) Hills district. Four Chinese grenades, an AK 47 magazine and 10 rounds of live cartridge were recovered from the two unidentified militants. Two other rebels, however, managed to escape. Sentinel reports that security forces have launched an operation in Arda and Deiyung area of NC Hills district to arrest 30 DHD militants suspected to have fled their designated camp.

He further said that fatalities among the civilians and security forces (SFs) have shown a decline till the end of October 2005 as compared to the corresponding period of 2004. He, however, said that the number of incidents of violence in Assam has risen in 2005 compared to last year, though the number of civilians killed is on a decline. The outfit’s ‘publicity secretary’, Tungeh Nongloda, on December 23 said “Our senior cadres went to the villages to carry out an investigation regarding the matter and found that none of our cadres were resorted to extortion as reported.” Nongloda however disclosed that the outfit collects Rupees 100 as "annual collection" from each house in Karbi Anglong district.
