In two separate incidents, two hand grenades were recovered at Uripok in Imphal West District and Phaknung in Imphal East District on January 1, reports The Sangai Express. In the first incident, one hand grenade was recovered at the residential gate of Yengkhom Janaki (81) at Uripok Achom Leikai at around 7.30 am. A note beside the grenade said that Red Army of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) would attack Yengkhom Janaki and his son-in-law for paying no heed to the outfit’s repeated warning over alleged misappropriation of rice sanctioned under ‘Mid Day Meal’ scheme. The grenade was set off safely at a garbage dumping site of Lamphelpat by a bomb disposal squad of Manipur Police. In the second incident, another hand grenade was found at a paddy field of Phaknung Makha Leikai in Imphal East District. The grenade was defused there by a bomb disposal squad.

A militant of Progressive faction of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), identified as Kangjam Premananda (40) was arrested by a team of Imphal West District Police at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai in Imphal West District on January 2, reports The Sangai Express. Two hand grenade and two mobile phones were recovered from the arrested militant. According to the Police sources, the hand grenades were meant to be exploded at Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) office and also at the residences of some of its top officials and the militant was operating under one Lamtakpa alias Langamba of PREPAK-Pro.

One cadre of the Lamyanba Khuman faction of Kangleipak Communist Party -Military Council (KCP-MC) militant, identified as Kangabam Chaoba alias Mohen (63), who was involved in placing a hand grenade at the office of Pandam, an evening daily on December 26, 2016 was arrested by Imphal West District Police at Sagolband Kangabam Leikai area in Imphal West District on January 8, reports The Sangai Express. One Chinese hand grenade along with detonator and three demand letters were recovered from the arrested militant. The militant disclosed that he had been working under the command of self styled ‘commander’ Laishram Mangoljao alias Lamyanba Khuman of the militant group who was staying in Nepal. He also disclosed that he collected one Chinese hand grenade from another militant, AK Khamba (48) who was recently arrested by Imphal East District commandos.

Meanwhile, 11 persons, including six NSCN-IM militants were arrested and arms were recovered by the Thoubal District Police in three separate incidents from different parts of the Thoubal District on January 11, reports The Sangai Express. In the first incident, a team of Thoubal District Police led by Superintendent of police (SP) M Pradeep conducted a search operation at Tuisem village under Pallel Police Station and arrested seven persons including three former NSCN-IM cadres who failed to produce proper identification proof. Four SSBL guns and one unauthorized weapon were recovered in the operation.In the second incident, the Police team carried out a search operation at Khangshim village under Kakching Police Station and arrested a sympathizer and a self styled ‘captain’ of NSCN-IM identified as Hongsha Moshel (32) and Ashang Hongsha (42) respectively. One .38 pistol with four live rounds, two mobile phone handsets and a wallet containing some documents were recovered from their possession.In the third incident, the Police carried out search operation at Serou quarry area where they arrested two NSCN-IM cadres, identified as Bungdon Bingham Ningham (29) and Seltun Thohrin Anal (23), who were collecting ‘illegal tax’ from trucks at that area. One .32 pistol loaded with one live round and a sum of INR 1100 were recovered from the arrestees.

Two workers out of three, who were abducted on January 26, by a group of suspected Nehlun faction of Kuki National Front (KNF-N) militant, were killed in an alleged gunfight between the militant group and Kuki National Army (KNA) militants at Moulsohoi village under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul District on January 29, reports The Sangai Express. The two deceased workers were identified as Laishram Tompok (27) and Laishram Thoi (22). However, the third abducted worker, identified as Khumujam Bijen (25) was rescued by the villagers. One suspected abductor, identified as Thangminlun Khongsai (25) also got bullet injury in the incident. According to the report, the injured abductor is a member of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) and one pistol was recovered from his possession. The three workers were abducted from Maphou dam project in Senapati District on January 26, by four suspected Kuki militants. The abductors were attacked by KNA cadres when they entered the Moulsohoi village, which according to KNA militants ‘fall under the jurisdiction’ of their designated camp. However, another source said that the abductors were not from any militant group and they were just a gang of criminals.

Separately, Security Forces (SFs) on August 13 arrested three persons from two different locations near Singjamei Police Station (Imphal West) and the other two from Koirou Part I (Imphal East) in connection with the bomb blast at Kakwa Naorem Leikai, reports Epao. The individuals have been identified as Thingbaijam Sanjoy (35), P Yaima Maring (29) and Sapam Nanda alias Makar (50). SFs also recovered a huge quantity of explosive materials from the arrested individuals including 81 number of gelatin sticks (power gel), two TNT cases weighing around one pound each, six circuits and four mobile phones with SIM cards . During preliminary interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that they are working under the command of ‘ Major’ Prem Kumar alias Aheiba Angom alias PK, ‘chief of finance’, People’s Revolutionary Army of Kangleipak (PREPAK) .

Ginzalian (70), of Vengnuam in Churachandpur District, was arrested on October 27. A 9mm pistol and five live rounds were recovered from him. On a tip-off, another one, identified as Zamkhanpau (48) of Suangdoh village in Churachandpur District, was arrested on October 27 for receiving an arms consignment from Myanmar. He said he received it from Ginlianthang (47) and Nengkhanlun (34), who were also arrested later. Two magazines of a 9mm pistol and cash were also recovered. Further, two more were arrested on information provided by the duo.

The arrested were identified as Naorem Bhume Singh (44), of Naorem Leikai, Konsam Joykumar Singh, (47), from Thongju Part II, Naorem Ongbi Premila Devi, (37), of Kha Naorem Leikai and Huidrom Ongbi Jiballata Devi, (54), of Thongju Pechu Lampak. Bhume and Joykumar were active members of the banned organisation while the two women were overground workers who helped Bhume and Joykumar.
