The Security Forces (SFs) arrested three militants belonging to Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL from the general area of Nambashi in Ukhrul District on January 29, reports Sanghai Express. In other incidents, SFs arrested two People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and three Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) cadres from different areas. The PREPAK cadres have been identified as Thangjam Joshikanta Singh (31) of Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi and Khumbanmayum Basanta Singh (40) of Nongdawang Leikai, Imphal East. The KCP cadres have been identified as Moirangthem Angoton alias Tomba Singh (23) of Yairipok Top, Thoubal, Yumnam Ngamba Meitei alias Septi (21) of Yairipok Top, Thoubal and Yumnam Arun Kumar alias Naobi (21) of Yairipok Top, Thoubal District. The security team also arrested a UKLF cadre identified as Thangminlen Lhungdim alias Lelen (30) of Churachandpur Tuibong Peace Ground who was there in the house to keep a watch on the abducted head mason. One .9 mm pistol along with four live rounds was recovered from his possession. Addressing media persons, Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Y. Joykumar stated that based on specific information, the Imphal west police commandos raided the house of Longjam Shyam (56), where the militant leader Sunil Meitei was taking shelter in an underground hideout inside the house. Longjam Shyam is a retired police constable and he is presently the ‘secretary in-charge’ for home of KCP-MTF, Sunil Meitei faction, the DGP added. One family member of Longjam Shyam disclosed that Sunil Meitei was staying at their house since the night of October 9. Sunil Meitei was arrested from Bangalore on June 29 and brought back to Imphal for questioning on July 21.

The recovered weapons included a magazine of AK rifles loaded with 60 live rounds, on grenade launcher modified from 0.303 rifles with four RPGs, three hand grenades with detonators, one sten machine gun loaded with 10 live rounds, two magazine pouch and one 9 mm magazine. The recovery of the weapons was made following the disclosure made by four arrested militants of Lamyanba Khuman faction of KCP (KCP-Lamyanba Khuman) from a house at Uripok Canteen Leikai. The PLA cadre was, identified as Moirangthem ningol Phanjoubam ongbi Mahesh-wori Devi. A .9-mm pistol and a magazine with six live rounds have been recovered from her. Police interrogation revealed involvement of the arrested persons in extortions and serving demand letters to various Government officials, businessmen and public in Bishnupur District.
