Villagers caught hold of and thrashed a ‘Sergeant Major’ of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) who allegedly came to extort money from Longa Koireng village in Senapati District on January 11, reports The Sangai Express. Meanwhile, KRA claimed that the apprehended cadre identified as Jamkholet Haokip alias David (28) was a deserter. According to information culled from the spot, David and one accomplice tried to abduct Longa Koireng village chief S Sothel Selsochung. After some thrashing, David was handed over to Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) [apex body of Kuki tribes] leaders who then turned over David to 8- Assam Rifles. One 9 mm pistol and a magazine containing nine live rounds were recovered from the possession of David.

Security forces (SFs) launched a search operation following information about the presence of valley based cadres and Kuki militants from Old Laljang village in Senapati District resulting the arrest of four militants on January 13, reports The Sangai Express. One AK rifle, one 5.56 American auto M-16 rifle, one A1 automatic rifle and a huge cache of ammunition were recovered from the spot. A source said that of the four arrested UG cadres, two of them are Kuki National Organisation / Kuki National Army (KNO/KNA) militants while the remaining two are from Lanheiba Meitei faction of United Revolutionary Front (URF-Lanheiba).

The identities of the five militants who were arrested by SFs on January 13 have been established, reports The Sangai Express. SFs during a search operation at Kalijang village near Taphou Kuki village in Senapati District arrested the militants. Of the five arrested persons, one cadre is from the Lanheiba faction of United Revolutionary Front (URF-Lanheiba) while the remaining four are Kuki Revolutionary Army/ Kuki National Army (KRA)/ (KNO) cadres. The URF-Lanheiba cadre was identified as Churchang alias Chang (30) and the KRA/KNO cadres have been identified as Thangjamo alias Keidalchao (23), Thanglalboi Vaiphai alias Cholen (19), Satuao Singson (30) and Lamjaohou Chongloi (21).One AK rifle, one 5.56 American auto M16 rifle and one A1 automatic rifle and a huge cache of ammunition were seized from them. In addition, ‘publicity secretary’ of KRA, T Simte refuted the report that four URF [URF-Lanheiba] cadres were arrested in the joint operation on January 13, reports The Sangai Express. He clarified that three of the arrested men are cadres of KRA while the fourth one is an innocent driver. There is no camp of the URF at Taphou Kuki, he further clarified.

Members of Sadar Hills ADC condemned the attack on Kipgen. The Sangai Express further adds that according to Thangjamang Kipgen an unknown person, suspected to be a Kuki, came to his house at Quarter Number A/IV, Langol Games Village, Zone-III and asked the ADC Member for some money to refuel his vehicle. As Thangjamang refused to give money, the man pulled out a small arm and fired. The women were protesting the bomb blast, which happened on February 5 which killed one person and the gunfight between Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland NSCN-IM on February a place between Nambashi and Nambashi Khunou in Ukhrul. RPF stated that the NSCN-IM is never considered as an enemy but it would counter any threat to Manipuri's unity through tough political and military strategies, reports E-pao on February 10. According to a statement of RPF issued by its ‘publicity secretary’ Roben Khuman the outfit is always ready to have talks with NSCN-IM, if the later wants. He also stated that killing of one cadre and injuring of few other cadres of NSCN-IM at Nambasi was an unfortunate incident. The personnel of the BSF blocked the road for some time and retrieved the IED with the help of bomb experts. According to sources, a team of Imphal West District Police commandos led by their Officer in Charge (OIC) P Sanjoy rushed to the locality after getting specific information regarding the presence of some underground cadres there. The arrested cadres have been identified as Khundrakpam Khelchandra alias Kanba (45) of Taothong Khunou, Brahmacharimayum Rajmani of Uripok Khaidem Leikai and Hanjabam Dineshor alias Dinesh of Brahmapur Thangapat.
