A combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles on January 9 arrested two People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres, who were involved in the January 6 bomb attack at the residence of Manipur Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam at Thangmeiband. They were identified as Moirangthem Monao alias Parimacha alias Mohen alias Sana (26) and Laikhuram Munal Singh alias Santahoi (24). One loaded 9-mm pistol, one magazine of AK-47 rifles with three live rounds and one two wheeler vehicle and one cellular phone were recovered from their possession. They reveled during their interrogation that they were operating under one R.K. Jemson alias Rozar alias Ramananda alias Nongpoknagnba (32) of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda. They confessed their involvement in the killing of one non local sugar juice vendor at Kwakeithel Bazar on March 1, 2009, killing of one non local barber at Sagolband Khumbong Mayum, lobbying of hand grenade at computer shop at Lamphel Sanakiethel, setting ablaze of Ujala Restaurant at Kwakethel, setting ablaze of Joychandra Garden at Langol and extortions of money from various shops and restaurants and saw mills and other business establishments in the Imphal areas. They also disclosed that the recent serial killings of non locals in the State were the handiwork of the PREPAK, People's Liberation Army (PLA), United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) as per a ‘decision’ taken at the top level to destabilise the present Manipur Government.

Another PREPAK cadre, Keisham Nipen Singh alias Sanayanba (24), was also arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Uyuingpok Maning Leikai on the same day. One .32 pistol loaded with two live ammunitions was recovered from his possession. They were identified as Keithellakpam Shantikumar alias S.K. Singh (25) and Saikhom Hemanta alias Rakesh Singh (28). One hand grenade and a cellular phone with a subscriber identity module card were recovered from their possession. They disclosed that they joined the outfit one Shanti of Wangoi and were currently operating under the ‘command’ of Nongdamba, ‘finance commander’ of the outfit. They confessed that that they had lobbed one hand grenade at the residence of the owner of the Haokip Travel on April 9 and another one at the residence of Hanjamayum Joydev Sharma of Thangapat Mapan in Imphal East District for not complying with monetary demands. The abduction was carried out in connection with monetary demand imposed on Pari Imom Khwai Sandangsun School Pangei. Some miscreants imposed monetary demand identifying themselves as Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) cadres. The ransom could not be paid due to some problems. Without any warning Romi along with other two women employees were abducted from the school on July 1. Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) maintained that taking advantages of numbers of splinter groups of KCP even other militant outfits are taking the advantages for extortions.

He further said that a 30 year old unidentified woman came to the showroom of the industry pretending to be a customer but left a piece of paper and a hand-grenade apart from taking mobile telephone number of the manager. The paper was later found out to be a demand note of the KCP. He further disclosed that there has been continuous threat from unknown callers and they even threatened to close down the steel industry if it fails to meet the monetary demand. Following his disclosure, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing around five kilograms was recovered and defused by the Security Force. There was one magazine filled with bolts, bearings, nails and explosive materials in the IED. Angouton confessed that the IED was handed over to him by one ‘sergeant’ Angamba of the outfit to plant and trigger a blast at a spot in between Nambol and Bishnupur. He had undergone military training of the outfit inside Myanmar and he was a bomb expert. Angouton was also involved in the blowing up of an excavator of the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) on January 21.

A combined force of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles arrested two People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres, identified as Huidrom Kumar Singh alias Ibocha (48), from Andro Khunou and Khunumayum Romesh Singh alias Nilachandra Singh (27), from Yairipok Ngariyan Chingkhong. Security Forces (SFs) recovered two AK 56 rifles with one magazine each and 50 live rounds from their possession.

Another combined team of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles arrested two cadres belonging to Military Council faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), identified as Meitankeishangbam Jiban Singh alias Katung (28) and Thokchom Sanayanba Meitei alias Apao (29), from their respective residences at Sabungkhok Makha Leikai and Awang Leikai. One .32 pistol loaded with four live rounds in the magazine was recovered from their possession. The Police said that the recovered arms were used for intimidating the people and to collect money from the public and offices. With the arrest of four militants, the total number of militants arrested in the last two months by SFs in Imphal East District reached 70, adds Sangai Express.

Two cadres of the VC faction of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Ningombam Abung Singh (33) and Sagolsem Binoy alias Pheijao Singh (47), were arrested by the Imphal East Police and Assam Rifles (AR) on September 22. They had joined VC faction of the PREPAK in the August 2009 through one Amudon of Taret Khun of PREPAK (VC).
