According to Daily Times, a new World Bank-funded report has questioned the authenticity and accuracy of policy reports in the Western press about the Madrassa (seminaries) system in Pakistan. The report entitled ‘Religious School Enrolment in Pakistan: a Look at the Data,’ released in February 2005 was written by Tahir Andrabi, Jishnu Das, Asim Ijaz Khwaja and Tristan Zajonc. The report claims: "Given the importance placed on the subject by policymakers in Pakistan and those internationally, it is troubling that none of the reports and articles reviewed based their analysis on publicly available data or established statistical methodologies." The authors found the existing estimates "inflated by an order of magnitude." The authors reportedly found that Madrassas account for less than one percent of all enrolment in the country and there is no evidence of a dramatic increase in recent years.

The Police said on March 20 that they were investigating whether a suicide bomber had detonated a powerful bomb that killed at least 50 devotees at a shrine in the Fatehpur village of Jhal Magsi district in Balochistan province on March 19. Baluchistan police chief, Choudhury Muhammad Yaqub, said, "We are trying to ascertain whether it was a suicide bombing, because the body of a man close to the blast site had been ripped into small pieces." No one has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far. It could have been related to sectarian violence or be the handiwork of Baloch insurgents, Yaqub added. It could also have been targeted at the custodian of the shrine, Sadiq Ali Shah, who escaped unhurt, he said. Shah has been in a dispute with relatives over the custody of the shrine and last year survived an assassination attempt, Yaqub claimed.
