It also formed a three-member committee led by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma to hold dialogue with the armed outfits. Issuing a press statement on October 12, Rajan Mukti, chief of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha-Rajan (JTMM-R), said it is willing to sit for a dialogue with the government provided that the latter forms a new ‘trustworthy talks team’, withdraws all court cases against the outfit’s cadres and releases his men currently serving in jail, reports Nepal News. The group also demanded fulfilment of other demands for what is described as liberation of the Terai from ‘internal colonization’. These demands include holding a referendum in the Terai to let the Terai people decide whether to opt for a separate Terai nation. Meanwhile, coordinator of the newly-formed government talks team, Janardan Sharma, said the government is trying to establish contact with the agitating armed Terai groups for dialogue.
