A suicide bomber, identified as Mohammad Asif, denoted his vest when Security Forces (SFs) arrested him while he was travelling in a bus on Main Grand Trunk (GT) Road near Rawalpindi District on January 20, reports Dawn. Earlier it was reported that a Police constable, identified as Shahid, was injured while foiling the terror bid. Officials of Law Enforcement Agencies and Police on January 21 were trying to unscramble a code which was found scribbled on a piece of paper recovered from the pocket of the suicide bomber. The man got off a bus and blew himself up with a hand grenade when the bus was stopped at a Police picket on GT Road near Mughal Garden in Wah. The piece of paper with the number 21110 written on it was recovered from him along with PKR 7,000 in cash, a pair of sunglasses and two pieces of clothing. A Police investigator said that officials from different agencies have joined hands with police to crack this code. They believe that this number could be a code for a possible target - a place or a person. The investigator said that the officials are trying to solve the mystery with the help of information which has already been gathered from terrorists in Police custody. Asif hailed from Fatehjang tehsil (revenue unit) of Attock District. Police sources said some of his family members had been picked up and shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Police are also interrogating the bus driver, a resident of Charsadda District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and his Afghan assistant.

At least 20 Shia persons were killed and another 50 were injured during a gun and bomb attack at an Imambargah (Shia place of worship) in Phase-5 locality of Hayatabad area in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on February 13 when suicide attackers and gunmen —dressed in police uniform — attacked worshippers offering Friday prayers, reports Dawn. Sources said that around 800 worshippers were present inside the Imambargah at the time of attack. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP, Operations) Dr. Mian Saeed said at least three suicide bombers attacked the Imambargah. He confirmed that one suicide bomber detonated his device, while another was shot dead. The third was arrested in an injured condition. The Police have launched a search operation for the third attacker. KP Police chief Inspector General (IG) Nasir Khan Durrani said the entrance of the Imambargah is highly guarded and the attackers entered from the other side of the mosque. The attackers climbed a high wall and cut barbed wires in order to enter the Imambargah. They arrived in a car which they burnt. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) chief Shafqat Malik said the attackers looked like Uzbeks. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani called for the deployment of Frontier Corps personnel, saying the Imambargah is very close to tribal areas which allows easy access for terrorists. Meanwhile, the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

At least four Shias were killed and six others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up during evening prayers at the mosque in Qasr-e-Sakina Imambargah (Shia place of commemoration) located on Kurri Road in New Shakrial area of Rawalpindi District on February 18, reported Daily Times. The suicide attack was followed by gun and grenade attack. The blast occurred when suicide bomber blew himself up after security officials stopped him from entering the Imambargah. Jundullah, a splinter group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack. Speaking from an unknown location, the ‘spokesman’ of the group Fagad said that the blast was a reaction to operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan Agency. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) leader Asghar Askari criticised the Government and alleged that it was colluding with militants. "This is the fourth attack [on the Shia community]; this Government is a murderous and terrorist Government. We have been lifting bodies due to them," he said, adding that the Punjab Government has given support to these terrorists. In an appeal to Army chief General Raheel Sharif he said, "Zarb-e-Azb should be spread to the whole of Punjab." Meanwhile, the initial investigative report of the February 17, 2015 Police Line blast in Lahore District submitted by Inspector General (IG) Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera and Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on February 18, revealed that “the bomber intended to attack a police van or a top police official”, reports The Express Tribune. As per the investigative report, the bomber and his accomplices inspected the site of the blast hours before the explosion. The Provincial Police Chief confirmed the Police Lines was the intended target. “The bomber wanted to enter the Police Lines but exploded prematurely,” IG Mushtaq said.

At least 11 people, including Additional District and Sessions Judge Rafaqat Awan, a woman lawyer, and a Policeman, were killed and 25 others were injured when militants attacked the courthouse complex in Islamabad on March 3, reports Daily Times. According to details, the militants sprayed bullets at everyone, hurled hand grenades and later exploded their suicide vests. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ‘spokesman’ Shahidullah Shahid while distancing itself from the attack said, “We have already declared a ceasefire and we strictly adhere to our deal with the Government. Our colleagues in the organisation also cannot violate this agreement”. He further suggested that some mujahideen groups or agencies could be involved in the terrorist activity. Meanwhile, ‘spokesman’ of Ahrar-ul-Hind (AH), a splinter group of TTP, Asad Mansoor claiming responsibility for the attack alleged that judicial system in the country was ‘un-Islamic’ and that they would continue their ‘struggle’ till enforcement of Sharia’h law. He further said, "We we are an independent group and have no links with TTP. We were a part of TTP earlier but now we operate independently,” adds The News.

At least 26 people were killed and 50 others injured as a suicide bomber exploded himself near a National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office located on the link road in Mardan town of same District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 29, reports Daily Times. The explosion ripped through the front entrance of the regional branch of NADRA. The blast took place at a time when the office was crowded with people lining up to make applications for Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs). “At least 26 people have been killed and more than 50 injured,” said Provincial Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani. “[The] condition of 11 of them is still critical,” he added. Deputy Inspector General Mardan Division Saeed Wazir said the blast was a suicide attack carried out by a bomber. He added that a security guard posted at the office stopped the bomber at the gate, after which he detonated his suicide vest. The suicide attacker was on a motorbike and rammed it into the gate after being denied entry, he said. Meanwhile, the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) claimed the responsibility for the attack. In an email sent to media by their ‘spokesman’, Ehsanullah Ehsan, reads, “NADRA is an integral part of the State and any such targets that directly or indirectly work for the State will be our target.” However, TTP ‘central spokesman’ Mohammad Khorasani in a statement distanced his group from the Mardan attack, saying, “We have nothing to do with blasts at public places”.
