A suspected woman Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber blew herself up at the Kollupitiya Police station next to the Sri Lankan Prime Minister's official residence in Colombo on July 7 morning killing herself and four police personnel and injuring nine persons. The suicide bomber was detected by the Ministerial Security Division at Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) leader and Minister Douglas Devananda's office, Galle Road, on suspicion as she refused a body search, according to Daily News. Ministry sources claimed that the suspected bomber was identified as Thavarasa Jeyarani from Jaffna based on an identity card found among the remains and had allegedly come to seek a job from the Minister. She was apparently on a mission to assassinate Minister Devananda who has publicly encouraged the LTTE rebel leader ‘Colonel' Karuna, to enter mainstream politics. The LTTE has neither claimed nor denied involvement in the attack.

At least 31 people were killed and 75 others sustained injuries in a suspected suicide bombing at a Shia mosque at Sialkot in the Punjab province on October 1 during the Friday prayers. More than 1,000 Shias were reportedly present at the Zainabia mosque, a kilometer away from the city police station on Raja Road, when the bomb exploded. Eyewitnesses said that a man, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, entered the mosque with a briefcase while the Friday sermon was being delivered. The Sialkot Police have indicated that the man with the briefcase was the main suspect, who also died in the blast. The army was deployed later to maintain law and order after angry mobs reacted by setting ablaze a gas station and two police vehicles to protest the blast. Security forces are also reported to have neutralised another explosive weighing 6.5-kg outside the same mosque. Eight suspects had been detained after preliminary investigations. While no group has claimed responsibility for the blast thus far, officials in Islamabad said that it could be in retaliation for the last week’s operation in which Amjad Farooqi, a suspected Al Qaeda operative, was killed by security agencies. Farooqi, a key suspect in two assassination attempts on President Pervez Musharraf, was also affiliated to the outlawed Sunni outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ).

At least 38 people have reportedly been killed and more than 100 injured in two bomb blasts in the city of Multan on October 7, today. According to the BBC, the attack occurred at about 4.40AM (PST) when hundreds of people had gathered to mark the first anniversary of the killing of Sunni leader and Sipah-e-Sahaba (SSP) chief Maulana Azim Tariq outside Islamabad. "It seems to be an act of sectarian terrorism, but we are still investigating," Multan's deputy police chief Arshad Hameed told the Associated Press. While no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, police suspect the involvement of outlawed Shia groups. The Associated Press reported that the first blast came from a car bomb and another minutes later from a device on a motorcycle. The attack comes almost a week after a suicide attacker detonated a bomb inside a crowded Shia mosque in the eastern city of Sialkot, killing 31 people and injuring more than 50.
