Two suspected Pakistani mercenaries of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and a security force personnel were killed in a suicide attack on a SF camp at Trehgam in Kupwara district on January 8. News reports said that three fidayeen (suicide terrorists), approached the camp in SF uniforms with one of them posing as a Major. Even as the sentry of the camp was questioning them on their identity, one of the terrorists barged into the camp and another lobbed a grenade. The third terrorist fired a grenade killing a SF personnel and injuring two others. In retaliatory firing, two terrorists were killed while the third managed to escape. SF sources said that later in the day, a LeT radio message was intercepted which said that two of its members were killed and a third returned to his hideout. However, the spokesman of the Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen (JuM), Jameel-ur-Rehman, told certain Srinagar-based journalists over telephone that the terrorists of his outfit had carried out the attack, killing 10 soldiers.

In an attack on the Raghunath temple in Jammu by the two fidayeen (suicide squad) of an unidentified terrorist group, at least seven persons, including three security force (SF) personnel were killed and more than twenty injured on March 30. The terrorists who arrived in a white ambassador car lobbed a grenade first and tried to make their way through the temple gate, guarded by the Special Service Bureau (SSB) personnel. However, one of the terrorist was killed in the encounter. The other terrorist, while firing indiscriminately, managed to sneak inside the temple premises. He was also killed in the ensuing encounter. Reports are uncertain about the number of terrorists killed inside the temple. Some add that there was a third fidayeen member as well, who blew himself after he ran short of ammunition inside the sanctum sanatorium of the temple. Four persons, including a woman pilgrim were killed in the firing by the terrorists. Three security personnel, including two SSB constables were also killed in the attack while trying to repulse the terrorist attack. The death of a fourth SF personnel is not yet confirmed. Reports further said at least twenty persons were injured during the exchange of fire. The identity of the terrorist outfit behind this attack is not yet confirmed. Anil Goswami, the Jammu Divisional Commissioner (DC), and Pitambar Lal Gupta, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) did not say anything regarding their identity. The former said "The terrorists or their outfit had not been identified so far". However, a terrorist outfit, the Islamic Front is said to have called up the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Jammu office on March 30 to claim the responsibility of the attack.

The toll in the May 14-fidayeen (suicide) attack in the Kaluchak cantonment, Jammu, has increased to 36. While mostly women and children were among those killed, approximately 48 others, including nine security force (SF) personnel, were injured. All three terrorists of the suicide squad who were wearing army uniforms and were suspected to be Pakistanis were killed by security force (SF) personnel in retaliatory firing. Official sources indicated that the death toll could increase as condition of many of the injured was stated to be critical. The injured persons had sustained bullet and splinter injuries and included primarily women and children of SF personnel’s families residing in the quarters that were targeted by the terrorists. Sources added that among those killed was a two-month old child. Official sources and witnesses indicated that three terrorists in combat dress boarded a passenger bus that was on way from Manali, Himachal Pradesh, to Jammu between Samba and Vijaypur. All of them were reportedly carrying three bags containing AK-47 rifles, grenades and explosives devices. As soon as the bus crossed Kaluchak bridge, the terrorists lobbed grenades and also started indiscriminate firing at the bus passengers. Even as most of the passengers managed to escape, seven of them including the bus driver and two women were killed on spot while another passenger sustained injuries. Thereafter, the terrorists are reported to have moved towards the quarters of SF personnel, located approximately 20 yards near the Kaluchak bridge. As the terrorists fired indiscriminately, one of the SF personnel in retaliatory firing killed one of the terrorists. The other two terrorists entered the family quarters of SF personnel and resorted to indiscriminate firing and throwing of grenades and explosive devices. These two terrorists were later killed in the ensuing encounter that lasted for approximately five hours. Official sources indicated that a total of 23 persons, mostly women and children, were killed inside the quarters while seven others had died in the bus. 48 others were injured. Sources added that casualties were reported from all the four blocks of the quarters as the terrorists got enough time to move from one block to another in absence of the SF personnel on duty. Although, identification of the slain terrorists was yet to be ascertained, two terrorist groups, Jamait-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) and Al Mansoor (AM), have reportedly taken responsibility for the attack. Media reports indicated that an anonymous caller called a Kashmir-based local news agency and introduced himself as the spokesperson of JuM and said three JuM cadres identified as Abu Zafar, Abu Saleem and Abu Salman had carried out the attack. However, a second caller claimed that AM, a hitherto unknown terrorist group, had carried out the attack. Media reports indicated that the AM may be another front outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) or the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

In a suspected incident of suicide bombing, approximately 12 persons, including five women, were killed and 51 others injured when a car containing explosives exploded outside the boundary wall of the US Consulate in Karachi on June 14. According to media reports, one of the three vehicles, which came from the direction of Clifton Bridge and were passing through Abdullah Haroon Road, exploded near the US Consulate building after crossing the Marriott Hotel. However, top police officials while denying that the attack was a suicide bombing said that the bomb exploded in a moving vehicle. According to these sources, a car, in which four women were seated, was passing through the road and the blast resulted in the death of all the four occupants. Separately, other official sources were quoted as saying that the bomb was concealed in the car driven by a lady and that some persons, who were probably following the car, blew up the explosive device through remote control when the car reached near the US Consulate. At least 13 persons were killed and 45 others injured when two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) fidayeen (suicide squads) simultaneously attacked and subsequently forced their entry into two shrines - Raghunath and Panjbakhtar temples - in Jammu City on November 24. The two fidayeen, who stormed the Raghunath temple were killed by security forces (SFs) after a three-hour operation while their associate who had stormed the Panjbakhtar temple, also known as Shivalaya and Paison Wala Mandir, was killed on November 25, today. Among those killed were two SF personnel, a woman and a child, while the injured included some devotees. Police and local residents of the Raghunath temple area rescued at least 75 devotees, including women and children, while several others fled to safety on their own, after the attack. This is the second attack on the Raghunath temple in less than eight months. Earlier, on March 30, two fidayeen had killed seven persons, including three SF personnel. Director General of Police (DGP) A K Suri said the LeT was responsible for the attack. He said a telephone call was received at his residence on November 24-night in which a Pakistani LeT terrorist said, "We have done it and now it’s your turn". Preliminary information gathered by SFs indicated that the terrorists appeared on Residency road and one of them lobbed two grenades outside a shop and later forced his entry inside the Panjbakhtar temple, where he commenced indiscriminate firing. Even as the grenade explosions and firing attracted the SF’s attention, another fidayeen stormed into the Raghunath temple. After intruding inside the Raghunath temple, the terrorist first lobbed four grenades and then commenced indiscriminate firing with an AK rifle.
