Afghanistan officials handed over the bodies of five martyred personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) as well as an injured soldier to the elders of Kurram Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on April 16 as talks continued between the two sides to deescalate tension along the border, reports Dawn. According to reports, 10 attackers from the Afghan side were also killed in clashes that erupted in the area after the FC men erecting a fence along the border at Laka Tiga post in Lower Kurram Agency came under fire. Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sajid Hussain Turi, who is leading a delegation of local tribes holding talks with the elders of Zazi tribe of Afghanistan, confirmed the death toll and said that 12 more personnel of the FC were wounded in the clashes with Afghan forces. They were taken to a hospital in Thall Garrison.

Four members of a Christian family were shot dead by unidentified assailants on Shah Zaman road in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on April 2, reports The Express Tribune. A minor girl was also injured in the attack. The family was travelling in a rickshaw when armed men on a motorcycle intercepted them and opened fire. “It appears to have been a targeted attack,” Provincial Police Official Moazzam Jah Ansari said. “It was an act of terrorism,” he added. The attack comes a day after Pakistan’s Christian community celebrated Easter on April 1.

Three suicide bombers attacked the Police and other security officials in two different attacks, on April 24, resulting in the killing of 10 Policemen and injuries to another 15 in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, reports The News. In the first incident, a suicide bomber drove his motorcycle into a Police truck, on Airport Road, due to which seven Balochistan Constabulary personnel were killed, Home Secretary Balochistan, Ghulam Ali Baloch, said. It was not clear whether the third bomber was wearing an explosive vest or if the bike was filled with explosives. According to sources in the law enforcement agencies, an estimated 20 kg of explosives were used in the attack. These cops, deployed as the security detail for the visiting president of the Azad Kashmir, were returning from duty when the attack took place. Half an hour earlier, three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and six others injured in Mian Gundi area, when two suicide bombers tried to attack the check post in an attempt to enter the FC camp but the personnel engaged them. Hizbul Ahrar, a splinter group of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), claims responsibility of the attack.

Three militants and one Soldier were killed during an exchange of fire along Pak-Afghan border in Mohmand Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on April 26, reports Dawn. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that a Soldier deployed at a checkpost near Pak-Afghan border embraced martyrdom during an exchange of fire with militants who raided the post from across the border. At least four Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed in a targeted firing incident in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on February 14 (today), reports Dawn. The FC personnel were patrolling the area near Sariab road early morning (February 14) when unidentified militants on a motorcycle opened fire at their vehicle, critically injuring all four who later succumbed to their injuries. Governor Balochistan Mohammad Khan Achakzai condemns the attack and urged the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) arrest the culprits at the earliest.

Two Rangers’ personnel were got injuries during the operation. Punjab Rangers, along with Elite Police and Intelligence Agencies, conducted the IBO as a part of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, killing three terrorists in exchange of fire and recovering ammunition from the site, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on February 17 stated. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED), rocket launcher, AK-47, grenades and other ammunition were also recovered from the spot.

At least 20 persons, including Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour, were killed in a suicide blast which targeted an election gathering of ANP in Yakatoot area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the night of July 10, reports, Dawn. The blast took place when Haroon Bilour, who was contesting elections from PK-78 constituency, arrived at the site where the ANP workers had gathered for a corner meeting. Bilour suffered serious injuries and was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jameel said that more than 30 people were injured in the explosion. Mohammad Khurasani, the spokesperson of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility of the blast. Among those slain was the candidate for Province Balochistan – 35 (PB -35 (Mastung) Siraj Raisani, whose elder brother Nawab Aslam Raisani had served as the Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) from 2008 to 2013. Provincial Information Minister Malik Khuram Shehzad confirmed the attack was a suicide blast and added that the bomber detonated in the middle of a compound where the political meeting was taking place. Most of the victims were resident of Kanak and Dringarh who had invited Raisani to announce their support for him. “Siraj was attending the corner meeting in Dringarh, was about to step on to the stage to address party workers when the suicide bomber, disguised as a political worker blew himself up,” Mastung District Collector (DC) Qaim Lashari said. According to the bomb disposal squad (BDS), up to 15kg of explosive material was used causing a large number of victims as the corner meeting was packed with people. Islamic State (IS) claimed the responsibility of the attack. SF intercepted and killed a 'high-value target' Salman Badeni said to be involved in the killings of over 100 members of the Hazara community as well as Police personnel. Colonel Sohail Abid of Military Intelligence was killed in the gunfight. Four other soldiers were also sustained injuries. The militants killed in the encounter have been identified as Abdul Muqeem, Faisal, Usman, Azeem, Rauf and Sohaib, whose name was included in the red book. Two other militants managed to flee. The CTD spokesman said the militants were involved in Ferozepur Road (Lahore) blast on July 24, 2017, that had claimed lives of 26 people including eight Policemen. Initial reports suggested a man riding a motorcycle first opened fire on the bus carrying employees, before detonating his explosives. According to District Emergency Officer (DEO) Dr Ashfaq, the attacker opened fire on the bus as it slowed down at a speed breaker on Basal Road. When the driver of the bus, identified as Muhammad Akram Niazi, disembarked and attempted to overpower the attacker with the help of a passer-by, the bomber blew himself up, killing himself, the driver and the passerby identified as Habibur Rehman. The bus was heavily damaged in the powerful blast. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack as yet.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Javed Odho, two Police officers were injured in the crossfire; one is in critical condition. Police and law enforcement agencies carried out an operation — that lasted for more than an hour — after receiving intelligence of Ghaffar's hideout, where his son was staying with him. A crossfire ensued and Ghaffar and Zahid also attacked the Police with hand grenades. Contingents of Police and Rangers surrounded the area following the encounter and search operations were launched in nearby areas. Speaking to the media after the operation, DIG Javed Odho said that Police had also recovered weapons, including rockets, two SMGs, a hand grenade and more than 200 rounds during their search after the shootout.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exchange of fire, which took place in the Mangochar area also resulted in injuries for two soldiers. The operation, the ISPR said, was conducted following intelligence reports that the terrorists were planning to do major terrorism activities in the province. Two suicide jackets, a large quantity of explosives, other weaponry and ammunition were also recovered during the operation.
