At least 20 Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) militants were killed as Security Forces (SFs) foiled their move to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan side in the Shunkrai area of Mohmand Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in the night of April 11. An intense exchange of fire took place for about an hour during which 20 terrorists were killed. The bodies of the killed terrorists are in the custody of SFs. Meanwhile, Ehsanullah Ehsan, the ‘spokesman’ for the militant group JuA, denied that any clash had taken place at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. “There was no such clash. We believe our colleagues in the custody of the Government were brought there and shot dead. It has happened in the past also but we would avenge the killings,” he stressed.

At least 25 persons were killed and 62 injured on December 13 when a device containing about 35 kilograms of explosives ripped through a makeshift market in Parachinar town of Kurram Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), reports Dawn. Officials said that the device kept in a sack exploded when a large number of people were buying second-hand clothes. Israr Hussain, head of the Bomb Disposal Squad, told reporters that 35 to 40 kilograms of explosives had been used in the device. Two militant groups, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Alami (International) and Ansarul Mujahideen (based in South Waziristan Agency) claimed responsibility for the attack, with one of them saying the target was the Shia community. A statement released to a foreign media channel and attributed to the spokesman for the Jhangvi group, Ali bin Sufian, said the attack had been carried out against the Shia elements who were supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Iranian government. “We warn ... parents that if they don’t stop their children from ongoing (sic) conflict in Syria they should remain prepared for more such attacks,” Sufian said.

At least 26 people were killed and 50 others injured as a suicide bomber exploded himself near a National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office located on the link road in Mardan town of same District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 29, reports Daily Times. The explosion ripped through the front entrance of the regional branch of NADRA. The blast took place at a time when the office was crowded with people lining up to make applications for Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs). “At least 26 people have been killed and more than 50 injured,” said Provincial Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani. “[The] condition of 11 of them is still critical,” he added. Deputy Inspector General Mardan Division Saeed Wazir said the blast was a suicide attack carried out by a bomber. He added that a security guard posted at the office stopped the bomber at the gate, after which he detonated his suicide vest. The suicide attacker was on a motorbike and rammed it into the gate after being denied entry, he said. Meanwhile, the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) claimed the responsibility for the attack. In an email sent to media by their ‘spokesman’, Ehsanullah Ehsan, reads, “NADRA is an integral part of the State and any such targets that directly or indirectly work for the State will be our target.” However, TTP ‘central spokesman’ Mohammad Khorasani in a statement distanced his group from the Mardan attack, saying, “We have nothing to do with blasts at public places”.
