A suspected Tehreeke Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant, involved in the attack on a Levies Thana in Zhob District, was killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces on January 1, reports Dawn. Official sources said that a group of armed militants attacked the Levies Thana in Murgha Kibzai area of Zhob District and ransacked it before setting it on fire. The attackers were fleeing when FC troops reached there and opened fire on them. In the heavy exchange of fire, one attacker died. “The man killed belongs to TTP,” an FC spokesman said. After the incident, he said, a search operation was carried out in the Saman area of Kahan in Kohlu District and huge quantity of arms and ammunition was seized. The arms seized included antitank and antipersonnel mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). However, no arrest was reported.

The Frontier Corps (FC) on January 2 claimed to have killed four suspected militantsin the Naal area of Khuzdar District, reports Dawn. One FC trooper was also killed during an exchange of fire with suspected militants. FC’s spokesman (Balochistan) said several suspected militants were also arrested during the operation. The forces also seized weapons and arms from the possession of militants during the action. "Forces also demolished the camp of miscreants," the spokesman said. He stated that the FC launched the operation in the aftermath of an attack on a levies check post in the area. The militants had snatched weapons and motorcycles from levies personnel during the attack. "They all belonged to a banned militant group", he added.

SSP raided the area of Quaidabad along with 500 Policemen on secret information about the presence of terrorists of the plotters of Karachi jailbreak attempt. When Police reached the scene terrorists opened fire on them, as a result a Police mobile was damaged. However, in retaliatory fire five alleged terrorists belonging to a banned outfit were killed. Police recovered weapons and explosive material from the possession of dead criminals. Later, two killed terrorists were identified as Sajid and Mateen. Rangers on February 1 claimed to have killed five gangsters in an encounter in Salar Goth area of Malir Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Dawn. They were identified as Akber Maliri, Khalid Lashari, Sheraz Ibrahim alias Comrade of Malir, Gulab Hasan alias Peero, and Yousuf Pathan. Akbar Maliri, was stated to be the main character in the gang warfare in parts of Malir and belonged to the Uzair Baloch group. “The gangsters were the symbol of terror in the city and were involved in numerous murders and other heinous crimes,” claimed the paramilitary force official. However, later in the afternoon, family sources confirmed that Shiraz Comrade is not among those killed. It has been confirmed that the individual earlier mistaken as Shiraz Comrade is also named Shiraz. According to details, the paramilitary force conducted a targeted operation at suspected hideouts located near the Malir riverbed. The suspects started indiscriminate fire on seeing the soldiers, upon which the Rangers returned fire and during the heavy gunfight five gangsters were killed, added the official. The Rangers official described the deceased as notorious gangsters. The soldiers also recovered weapons from their possession.

Police killed five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in a shootout during checking in Zia Colony of Orangi Town in provincial capital Karachi on July 29, reported The News. According to details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Azfar Mehesar of District West said that a Mominabad Police team was patrolling when they saw some suspects in a Hi-roof van. When the Police signalled the van driver to pull over, the suspects opened fire. As the Police retaliated, more companions of the terrorists who were coming behind the van on a motorcycle attacked the Police, wounding Police Constable (PC) Naseem. After the encounter ended, five suspects were arrested in an injured condition but their accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness. A ready-to-use IED weighing about four kilograms was found from the van. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, Fida Hussain Janwari, the Police obtained intelligence about the presence of gangsters in the area after which a joint team of the Police and Rangers conducted a targeted raid on an alleged hideout. Fida Hussain identified one of the deceased as Sadiq Gadani. “He had established a reign of terror in Lyari,” claimed the senior Police Officer. “Sadiq Gadani was linked with Noor Mohammed alias Baba Ladla gang,” he said. But some residents said Sadiq Gadani had recently parted ways with Baba Ladla and joined the Lashari gang. The Sindh Government had placed PKR 1 million bounty on his head. Sixteen people offering prayers at a mosque inside the PAF camp were killed by a group of militants, Bajwa said. Army's Captain Asfandyar was killed in the attack. 10 soldiers were injured during exchange of fire with terrorists, two of whom are officers. Terrorists entered the camp at two points, splitting into sub-groups, Bajwa claimed. The encounter began immediately due to the quick response from security forces, he said. The attackers were wearing constabulary uniforms. Corps Commander Lieutenant General Hidayatur Rehman conducted aerial surveillance of the base from a helicopter. District Police Officer (DPO) Faisal Shahzad said that Police from the Rustam Police Station were patrolling Gujrat on the Daggar Road when militant commander Idadullah alias Farooq Alam along with his two accomplices opened fire on the Police. The DPO said that the slain militant was wanted by the Mardan Police in more than 40 cases of bombing schools, CD shops and Government installations and carrying out attacks on the Police. On a tip off from a Multan-based intelligence Agency, a joint team of intelligence agency and Police raided a house located in the Jorian village at 2:00 am and cordoned off the area. As the joint raiding team reached the house, resistance was offered from the housemates. The terrorists opened fire on the raiding party and also hurled hand grenades. Resultantly, Sub-Inspector of Elite Force Irshad was killed and three other personnel, including Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Ibrar, sustained bullet injuries. One of the injured terrorists was a 'commander' of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and was planning a terrorist attack during Muharram in Rawalpindi. One of the detained terrorists was identified as Abid, son of Younas, resident of Mirza village in Attock District. It has also been learnt that Abid is a close associate of Qari Sohail, mastermind of colonel (retired) Shuja Khanzada suicide blast case. Initial reports by police revealed that one woman from inside the raided house blew herself along with one another woman and two children by blowing grenades. One of the killed women was recognized as Malika Bibi and other as Sumaira Bibi. The children are recognised as Azan and Muhammad Umar. Police later searched the house and recovered two 9MM pistols, two hand grenades, 20-25 mobile SIM cards of different networks, four mobile phones and one old model Mitsubishi Lancer Car bearing Karachi registration number S-0303. There were reports that explosives were loaded in the car.

A spokesman from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) said that the Police had brought back Bhatti, along with his four associates, to Pakistan from Dubai with the help of Interpol on October 22, 2015. Police claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives, including Kalashnikovs, rifles and hand grenades from the suspected terrorists' possession. The three suspects were identified as Omair Nadeem, Omair Hassan and Noman Yasin. According to the details of the encounter, Bhatti along with his three accomplices was accompanying the Police and CTD personnel to assist them in identifying a house in use of suspected terrorists near Malik park in the Badami Bagh area when the encounter took place. The CTD spokesman said the police party raided a house on the tip off to arrest criminals involved in sectarian killings. He added that the terrorists staying in the house offered resistance to the raiding party and opened fire. Police said the raiding party resorted to retaliatory firing as a result of which the attackers were killed. The Punjab Government had announced a bounty of PKR 2.5 million on the head of Haroon Bhatti.
