Four Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed during an exchange of fire with militants trying to storm the residential and administration compound inside a FC training centre in Loralai District of Balochistan on January 1, reports Dawn. Four militants were killed in the clearance operation undertaken by FC personnel following the attack. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the FC personnel challenged the terrorists at the entry point of the "residential/administration compound of the training centre" and foiled their attempt to enter the facility. Having failed to enter the residential compound, the terrorists reportedly opened indiscriminate fire and entered a compound adjacent to the checkpost which was immediately cordoned off by FC. The exchange of fire at the checkpost left four FC personnel martyred and two others injured. The killed FC personnel were identified as Subedar Major Munawar, Havildar Iqbal Khan, Havildar Bilal and Sepoy Naqshab.

The suspects allegedly belonged to a banned outfit and were gunned down in an exchange of fire, a CTD spokesperson said, claiming that the two men were accomplices of terrorist Zeeshan. The deceased were wanted for their involvement in attacks on Security Forces (SFs) and kidnapping of local and foreign citizens, he added. According to the anti-terror police department, the two alleged terrorists were residing in Zeeshan’s house in Lahore and fled when they heard the news of Zeeshan’s death.

A Police officer was killed in an encounter between the Police forces and drug peddlers on February 12 in Old Golimar area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Daily Times. According to details, two Policemen riding a motorbike were patrolling in Old Golimar area when unidentified drug peddlers opened fire on them. One of the Policemen received bullet injuries and was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The drug peddlers escaped from the scene via narrow roads and gullies, the officials said. Police recovered eight spent bullet casings of pistol from the crime scene. The deceased Policeman was deployed at Pak Colony Police Station for the last one and half year.

At least four Policemen were killed and a Station House Office (SHO) was injured on February 12 in an ambush in Maharah area of Parowa sub-district in Dera Ismail Khan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports Dawn.District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Mohammad Iqbal said that suspected militants targeted a Police van patrolling in the area.The DPO said that the Police party retaliated but the alleged terrorists managed to flee from the scene. Police and Security Forces (SFs) personnel killed five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants holed up in a house in E-sector of Phase-VII in Hayatabad area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on April 16 after a fierce gun battle lasting over 17 hours, reports Dawn. One Police officer also killed during the gun battle. The TTP in an email message issued claimed that six of its members were involved in the gunfight with law enforcement personnel. The gun battle started at 7.30pm on April 15-evening as Police tried to enter the house in E-sector during an intelligence-based operation (IBO). Assistant Sub-Inspector Qamar Alam lost his life while trying to enter the house. A terrorist was also killed during an initial exchange of fire that triggered a fierce gunfight which continued till the killing of the four remaining terrorists around April 16-noon. Two SFs personnel and two civilians, including a woman, were injured during the gunfight. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDUS) during the clearance found an explosives-rigged bike on the ground floor, which was connected with explosive materials planted in the basement of the house. The BDU destroyed the bike with an explosive charge, which brought down the two-storey house. “The house and bike were rigged with about 60kg explosives, which had been destroyed with a 250-gram explosive charge,” BDU chief Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Shafqat Malik said.

As a result, Sepoy Mujahid was killed. In the other incident, security forces exchanged fire with militants along the border in Ghulam Khan tehsil. Three Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) militants, including a commander Shams Qalandrni were shot dead on May 17 during an operation carried out by Security Forces (SFs) in the Dashat-i-Gorran area of Kalat District in Balochistan, reports Dawn. The other deceased militants were identified as Zafar Ali and Shoaib. Security officials said that intelligence agencies, along with Security Forces (SFs), had launched an operation in the Dashat-i-Gorran area after receiving information about the presence of militants there. An official source said that the SFs stationed at Chega Lar Paakhel were carrying out search operation in Lewanai Pewar village when they learnt about the presence of militants. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed three militants during an intelligence-based operation conducted on Jalalpur Jattan Road in Gujrat town of (Gujrat District) Punjab on July 1, reports The News. The CTD raided the place and challenged the terrorists to surrender. The terrorists instead started firing on the CTD officers. The CTD officers took precautionary measures and a shootout ensued. After the firing stopped, three terrorists were found dead. Other three terrorists escaped taking benefit of darkness. The dead terrorists were identified as Tayyab Jamil alias Baba Ji, Bilal alias Abdul Rahim and Nadir alias Abdullah. They were most wanted terrorists of Red Book. They had committed multiple acts of terrorism, including attack on PAF bus in Sargodha, Police Training School Sargodha, Police Post Qudratabad, Patrolling Post Darra Tang, Police Post Kundian killing dozens of citizens. Two other militants managed to escape. According to Police officials, a Kalashnikov, four hand grenades along with a suicide jacked and 15 kilogrammes of explosive material was recovered from the possession of the militants, adds Geo TV. Shukrullah was the facilitator and mastermind of several suicide attacks. He also remained associated with Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP). He was involved in suicide attacks on Chilgari and Fatehpur shrines in Jhal Magsi District (October 5, 2017) along with the abduction of eight labourers from the Kech District on July 5. Earlier on July 5, eight labourers have gone missing after they resisted extortion by unidentified militants in Kech District, reports Pakistan Today. According to Levies, the militants were asking for money; however, when refused, they started shooting and injured a labourer as well. The identity of the labourers couldn’t be ascertained immediately to tell if this was an ethnic attack.

A cache of arms, ammunition and explosive material were recovered from their possession. According to the information received, Shaikh Muhammad Mumtaz was involved in dozens of targeted killings, attacks on Police, extortion and other acts of terrorism. Eight members of his group had already been arrested from different cities, said the sources. Firaun was also involved in killing of two Policemen of the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) in the Orangi Town area in June 2019. He had been arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in 2013 and the militant had managed to escape from the Judicial Complex of Central Prison Karachi in June 2017.

According to the reports, around eight militants riding motorcycles opened fire on the security checkpost of Police situated in the Drabin area. The Police personnel deployed at the checkpost retaliated effectively, forcing them to flee from the scene. No security personnel got hurt, said Police. However, a private security guard of petrol pump located nearby the checkpost and a passer-by died on the spot while three others sustained serious injuries in the attack. Security Forces (SFs) foiled a terror attack bid on October 18, killing one would-be suicide bomber during an exchange of fire, while another bomber blew himself up during a search operation in the Killi Kawar area near the University of Loralai on the outskirts of Loralai town (Loralai District) of Balochistan, reports Dawn. Two soldiers of the Frontier Corps — Abdul Latif and Mohammad Sharif — were also injured in the incident. Official sources said that the FC personnel posted at a check-post in the Killi Kawar area signalled two men riding a motorcycle to stop. But instead of stopping, they opened fire on the SFs. The suspects tried to escape and took shelter near a seasonal river. The SFs cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. During the ensuing encounter, one would-be suicide bomber was killed while another detonated the explosives attached to his jacket. Arms and ammunition, including grenades, AK-47 assault rifles and rounds, were recovered from the possession of the slain militants.
