The appeal was issued on January 10 by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and Jammu and Kashmir Jamiat-e-Ahle-Hadees. Three suspected left wing extremists (also known as Naxalite) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) reportedly shot dead a police personnel of the Balanagar police station on the Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highway No. 7 in Mahabubnagar district on March 18. In a statement issued in Aizawl on March 31, the MZP said: "The slanders that Mizos had raped their women and that they had burned their temples are totally false and the Brus should issue a public apology as widely as possible, preferably in national newspapers and other national media." The student body further demanded that if and when the Brus are repatriated, they should not be allowed to stay in a compact area, especially near the camps of the security forces.

The student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), on April 3, announced that it would boycott the negotiation process between the Bru National Liberation Front (BNLF) and the Mizoram Government in protest against the outfit’s kidnapping a student ahead of the crucial round of negotiations later this month. A MZP statement said that, Lalrinawma, a student of the Kanhmun High School, was kidnapped by the BNLF on March 29. Meanwhile, on March 30, the kidnappers, who claimed to be members of a faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) reportedly released the student in return for a ransom amount of Rupees 25,000. The BNLF leader Bruto Meshka has, meanwhile, denied his outfit’s involvement in the kidnapping.

According to Hindustan Times, left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) killed at least eight civilians and injured 100 others near Kotrapal village in Kutru police station limits of Dantewada district on June 19-night. The attack reportedly occurred when people of 45 villages in Dantewada district were returning after attending a meeting called to oppose the Naxalites in their areas. Around 3000 villagers had gathered at Taalmendri and Matwada villages where they unanimously resolved to boycott the Naxalites. Villagers were protesting against the Naxalite ban on plucking of tendu leaves and weekly markets, the main source of income for the tribals, the report said.

Ten police personnel are reported to have sustained injuries in a clash with the residents of Palhalan village in the Baramulla district after they alleged that troops had killed an elderly civilian during the course of an operation at Tilgam. According to Daily Excelsior, troops of the Rashtriya Rifles, during a cordon-and-search operation at Tilgam, detained some youth and asked them to identify the terrorists present in the village. In the ensuing melee a gunshot was fired which killed a 55-year-old civilian, Ghulam Mohammad Dar.

According to The Hindu, police foiled a bid by cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) to blow up a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited mobile tower at Dahewadi in the Gadchiroli district on November 15. Reportedly, Maoists had called for a bandh (general strike) on the same day to protest against the surrender policy of the State Government, which was announced on August 30, 2005. The Maoists, however, damaged some telephone equipments and machinery. The district police chief Shirish Jain said, "About 238 Naxal sympathisers and associates were rounded up from south Gadchiroli areas of Bhamragarh, Etapalli and Sironcha and rest of them from north in the district in a clear operation."
