The Telegraph reports that a Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Ganesh Lohra, a member of Guddu Singh squad of the outfit, and three of his aides were arrested from a rented house in Pandra under Sukhdevnagar Police Station on the outskirts of Ranchi District in the night of January 1. The three aides were identified as Mukeshan Soni, Satyendra Kumar and Abhishek Anand. The Police recovered a bike, a four-wheeler and a mobile phone from their possession. “Lohra was a part of the 70-member Maoist squad that killed a CoBRA jawan in an encounter at Sonua in Chaibasa on December 21,” Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Saket Kumar Singh said. “Soni, with the help of Anand and Kumar, had brought Lohra to the city in a car on December 31 on the directions of Prasadji. A compounder was expected to treat Lohra for a bullet trapped in his right arm, but before they could arrange for that, we arrested him. We will get him treated in custody,” the SSP said. He added that Soni was the same person who had directed Maoists to open fire at the police station in Rania, in the outskirts of the district, six months ago. “Maoists had fired at the police station from Soni’s house, which is just across the road. Soni used to work as a courier and medical facilitator for the Maoists,” he added.

Both Malda and Nadia have borders with Bangladesh from where the FICN is smuggled,” a senior NIA officer said. The suspicion grew after NIA had arrested kingpins of the smuggling operation, Morgen Hussain and Rakib Sheikh, both residents of Malda District of West Bengal, on January 6. They had been coordinating circulation of FICN in India through a network of bank accounts and ATMs for transferring back the genuine currency to the suppliers based in Malda.
