On January 4, six persons, including four Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation employees, were arrested near Veltur village in the Mahabubnagar district while they were illegally transporting weapons to be delivered to left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). The police seized an unspecified number of arms and ammunition, include 1000 cartridges, air rifles, pistols and a Taiwan-made GPS (global positioning system) set from them. According to district police chief, Vikram Singh Mann, the accused confessed that the ‘District Committee Secretary’ of CPI-Maoist, Sambashivudu, paid them Rupees 3 lakhs to buy arms and ammunition. They had close links with the Naxalite outfit and had been supplying arms and ammunition for the last four years, Singh added.

Further, a generator, a photocopier, 10 bundles of olive-green uniform, three sewing machines, an iron, three grenades, a cartful of ration and three tents were recovered from the encounter site. Haldar was a 'state committee' member of the MCC and later became 'central committee' member of the CPI-Maoist. Press Trust of India has reported that three cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) involved in the November 13 Jehanabad district jail attack were arrested from Hulasganj area of the district on December 24. Police said Umesh Paswan alias Dipak Paswan, a ‘state committee member’ of the CPI-Maoist, Shivratan Paswan and Ramashish Paswan were arrested from village Tirra. However, Ramashish Paswan is considered the right-hand man of self-styled commander of the outfit Praduman Sharma who masterminded the operation.
