According to Hindu, hours before Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was to arrive in Hyderabad, capital city of Andhra Pradesh, the police arrested two persons, Shakeel and Syed Hazi, on January 2 and seized two improvised explosive devices with an intricate detonation mechanism that could be activated by a cellular phone. Police said the duo planned to attack offices of the Director General of Police, city Police Commissioner and the Hitech city, from where a majority of the software companies operate. Police Commissioner, Ajit Kumar Mohanty, stated that more explosives could have been smuggled into Hyderabad and operatives of some terrorist groups could be moving around.

At a press conference on January 3, Bangalore city Police Commissioner, Ajai Kumar Singh, said that they have arrested a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist from Andhra Pradesh in connection with the December 28 attack in the Indian Institute of Science campus. According to Pioneer, the Mumbai Police arrested three suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists from Nagpada in south Mumbai and seized arms and material used for manufacturing explosives from their possession on January 6. Police said the three terrorists, wanted for several crimes, including terrorist activities in Kashmir, were in the process of establishing contacts and developing a module in Mumbai. The police identified the three as Khurshid Ahmed Abdul Ghani Lone alias Lala (a resident of Bandipore in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir), Arshad Ghani Ahmed Badru, (resident of Sopore in Baramulla) and Mohammed Ramzan Abdul Wahab Qazi (resident of Bandipore). On January 15, a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) conspiracy to blast reservoirs and power installations in Karnataka was unearthed when the police arrested a terrorist, Habeeb, from Almatti in the Bagalkot district, according to Hindu. Police recovered explosive materials such as gelatin sticks from the premises where Habeeb was arrested. A diary, a passport and some incriminating materials were also seized. Bangalore city Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh said Habeeb alias Mehboob Ibrahim alias Chopdar was a key LeT operative in Karnataka. He had been directed by Abdul Rehman, alleged LeT ‘commander’, to plan explosions at the Kaiga Nuclear Plant in Karwar district, Almatti dam in Bagalkot and the Sharavathy transmission lines from Sharavathy Hydel station in the Shimoga district. Habeeb, a fabrication mechanic from Guledagudda in Bagalkot district, was in Saudi Arabia from 1993 to 2001, where he reportedly came in contact with Rehman and other Lashkar leaders.

Chand Pasha reportedly acted as a conduit in disbursing funds for LeT's "subversive activities" in Karnataka and was used by another accused Abdul Rehman in routing money to members of the outfit. Pasha, a businessman from Bangalore, had met prime accused Abdul Rehman in Saudi Arabia. Police said that Pasha had made payments to two of the other accused, Afsar Pasha and Ibrahim on the directions of his brother in Saudi Arabia.

According to The Statesman, on January 30, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police arrested two persons, including a Pakistan-trained bomb-maker, with a cache of arms and some high-grade explosives in Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. The squad chief Joint Police Commissioner KP Raghuvanshi said the ATS recovered two imported firearms and approximately one kilogram of highly inflammable high-grade explosive, besides maps of Maharashtra, Mumbai and Manali (Himachal Pradesh) from the arrested terrorists. While one of the terrorists has been identified as Mushiruddin Salauddin Siddiqui, a native of Kanpur, Utttar Pradesh and a resident of Virar in Thane, the other terrorist has been identified as Manzoor Mahmood Ansari, a resident of Birganj in Nepal. One of the arrested terrorists confessed to having undergone a 22-day training in Pakistan in bomb-making, Raghuvanshi added.

Police recovered various documents including defence secrets, hand-drawn maps, a directory of defence establishments in West Bengal, a diary containing telephone numbers in Pakistan and Bangladesh, Pakistani currency and a camera from his possession. Police said the arrested agent, Waquar Salim, hailed from Bhavalnagar in Punjab province of Pakistan. The documents were reportedly meant for a contact in Bangladesh who was to then transfer them to Pakistan.

Irshad Ali and Mohammad Muarif Qamar alias Nawab were arrested from Mukarba Chowk near the Karnal Bypass in north-west Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Ajay Kumar told reporters. According to The Hindu, Mumbai police's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested two persons in Bihar and one in Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra in connection with the serial blasts in Mumbai on July 11. Police sources told that Khalid Aziz Raunak Aziz Sheikh and Kamal Ahmed Mohammad Vakil Ansari, belonging to Basupatigaon in the Madhubani district, near the Indo-Nepal border were arrested on July 20 from Patna in Bihar. Kenyan police informed that they had arrested a top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative, Syed Abdul Karim ‘Tunda’ from Mombasa on July 21. According to Hindu, Tunda was one of the three founder-members of the LeT's pan-India operations. A one-time resident of Pikhuwa in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district, Tunda was one of the 20 terrorists whose extradition India unsuccessfully demanded from Pakistan after the 2001 attack on Parliament House. The Central Bureau of Investigation had charged Karim with organising the Lashkar's first major strike outside of Jammu and Kashmir, a series of 43 bombings in Mumbai and Hyderabad and seven separate explosions on inter-city trains on December 6, 1993 that claimed two lives. Between 1996 and 1998, Karim organised 33 other bombings in Delhi, Rohtak and Jalandhar, in which 21 persons were killed and upwards of 400 injured.

Mumbai Police on August 13 claimed to have neutralized a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) module in the city by arresting two suspected members of the outfit, according to Hindustan Times. The two were identified as Shabbir Ahmed Mushiullah, a resident of Malegaon in Nasik, and Nafiz Ahmed Jamir Ahmed Ansari, a resident of Govandi in north-east Mumbai. Both are also members of the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and had traveled to Dubai in May 2003. From there they had moved to Pakistan for arms training. Two suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants wee arrested in the national capital New Delhi along with a large quantity of explosives, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said on November 22 (today). Imran and Ghulam Rasool, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested from a shopping complex in the Rohini locality of Northwest Delhi by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, according to Zee News. Around 1.5 kg of RDX, INR 2.5 lakh and two timers were recovered from their possession. While Imran is a resident of Rohini, Rasool had arrived in Delhi a few days ago.

On November 29, Enforcement Directorate officials claimed to have neutralised an attempt by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to pump fake Indian currency notes into the country through the Colombo to Chennai route and arrested four persons in Chennai in this connection. According to Chennai Online, Sheikh Abdul Qadar was arrested and fake currency with a face value of INR 45 lakhs recovered from him. He had received the consignment at Colombo, where the fake money had been sent via Dubai. Following his interrogation, three more men -- Rafiq, Abdul Nasir and Dhansu -- were arrested from different parts of Chennai earlier this week. They were produced before a court which remanded them to Enforcement Directorate’s custody for interrogation.

Superintendent of Police, Laxmi Reddy, said the suspects were detained following information that bombs and explosives were being produced and transported from a house. Three of the arrested persons reportedly belonged to Delhi and had come to the village posing as unani (oriental medicine) and aurvedic (traditional Indian medicine) practitioners.
