According to media reports, Pakistan’s external intelligence agency, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), is reportedly in contact with some Maoist groups in Nepal to gain access to Indian left-wing extremist—Naxalite—groups like the People's War Group (PWG) and the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC). Quoting interrogation reports of some arrested terrorists and other intelligence inputs, reports said that ISI operatives in Nepal have roped in Maoists in Nepal to do the needful in making inroads into the Eastern Indian States like Bihar and other PWG and MCC dominated areas in the same region. Reports further said that some of the Nepalese Muslims were also being trained to infiltrate into India under the guise of labourers to carry out anti-India activities.

Three personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the driver of the vehicle in which they were traveling were killed when left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) triggered a landmine at Karo mines under the Bermo sub-division, Bokaro district, on June 4. CISF personnel were on patrol duty when the Naxalites triggered the blast. According to media reports, soon after the blast, an MCC ‘sub-zonal commander’ called up the local media and said it was a "token tribute to new Superintendent of Police (SP), Anil Palta, who was transferred from Daltonganj". Palta reportedly figures on the MCC hit-list. The MCC leader said Palta, who had launched an offensive against the Naxalites during his tenure as the Daltonganj SP, would have to face many more such blasts in the future.

The State Government has put the security forces on alert ahead of a 48-hour strike called by left-wing extremist—Naxalite—group the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) on June 10-11. The MCC has called the strike to protest widespread arrests of its cadres and alleged police persecution of its sympathizers and general public. Speaking to the media in Ranchi, a senior police official said, "We are expecting some violence during the strike. They may resort to killing police personnel in land mine blasts or ambushes. The two-day bandh (general shutdown) called by left-wing extremists—Naxalites of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC), beginning June 10 affected normal life in the State of Jharkhand. Official sources said the shutdown was near total in the MCC-affected areas, where most of the shops remained closed and vehicular traffic also remained off the road. The bandh was called to protest against alleged police atrocities. While most of the bus operators had cancelled long route services, MCC cadres set ablaze a truck near Bundu in Ranchi on the National Highway (NH) 33. In Hazaribagh district, armed MCC Naxalites raided the Baralanga railway station located between Barkakana and Ramgarh section of South Eastern Railways and snapped the power connection. The Naxalites also attacked the Rai railway station near Khelari in Ranchi and locked the office of the station manager, bringing the traffic of coal rakes to a halt throughout the night. The loading and transportation of coal from the mines of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) to the railway sidings in Khelari, Piparwar and Kujju was also disrupted during the shutdown.

Left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) blasted railway tracks at Harubeda station on the Muri-Barkakana section in Ranchi division on June 11, on the second day of their 48-hour Jharkhand bandh (general shutdown) called in protest against alleged police atrocities. Although no one was injured, the blast destroyed the east and west cabins and damaged about a metre of railway track. In another incident, Naxalites set fire to the engine of a goods train at Bendi, Latehar district. In Bokaro, a group of MCC Naxalites raided Dhania railway station and assaulted the station master and forced him out of his chamber before locking it up. They also laid out blocks on the rail track. The Naxalites also made abortive attacks on Barlanga and Rai railway stations in Ranchi district. Official sources said most of the trains were running late due to these incidents. The bandh affected dispatch work at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) though it had not affected production of coal, CCL sources said. Long distance bus services, particularly towards Ranchi, Chaibasa and Jamshedpur were affected during the bandh.

According to media reports, three judges in Jharkhand and Bihar-- Gaya District and Sessions Judge Jawahar Choudhary, Hazaribagh Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar Chand and Garhwa Additional District and Sessions Judge Deepak Nath Tiwari —have sought security because left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) put up posters ‘awarding death sentence’ to them. On June 8, 2001, Justice Choudhary had sentenced four MCC Naxalites to death in the Barra massacre case, in which 35 people were killed. Justice Chand had awarded the death penalty to three MCC Naxalites on June 17, 2003, in the Beltu massacre case where 15 people were killed. Similarly, Justice Tiwari ordered the death sentence for four other Naxalites, in connection with the Meral massacre. An emergency meeting of the Central Committee members of the MCC was held in Chatra on June 27. The meeting decided to launch intensive campaign against the recent spate of sentence pronounced against the MCC cadres.

Official sources said Naxalites abducted two forest guards from their homes at Kalyanpur and Kurmu villages, Latehar district, and reportedly slit their throats before throwing them on a road. In the same district, Naxalites also abducted a village chowkidar (security guard) and another man from their houses at Amdiha and Dhudhuma villages and killed them by slitting their throats.
