According to media reports, Naxalites raided the village and forcibly took away three persons. Their bullet-riddled bodies were later recovered on the outskirts of Lutidih. Raids were continuing in different places to track down the killers.

Three police personnel were killed and three others injured when left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) attacked the Paraiya police station, Gaya district, on July 2-night. Speaking to media persons in Gaya, Inspector General of Police (Administration), Neelmani, said that heavily-armed MCC Naxalites raided the police station to loot firearms and fired indiscriminately killing an assistant sub-inspector and a constable on the spot. They locked the officer in-charge of the police station, Suresh Paswan, in a room and later burnt him alive. Neelmani said that the attempt to loot arms was foiled by alert police personnel.

According to media reports, approximately 60 armed Naxalites raided the railway station and held the staff there hostage at gun-point. Later, the Naxalites escaped on the arrival of a large contingent of police. Media reports said the Naxalites were protesting the recent arrest of MCC cadres in the district.

Three police personnel were killed in the incident. The arrested Naxalites were remanded to judicial custody after interrogation. There was, however, no report of any casualty. Train services have been completely disrupted in the Muzzafarpur-Gorakhpur section, the railway sources said. The routes of many trains were being diverted due to blockage of tracks and fear of more saboteur activities of the Naxalite group.

The Bihar Government on July 16 ordered an inquiry into the damages caused to the railway tracks at four places in the northern parts of the State by left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) on July 15. Making a statement in the State Legislative Assembly, the Panchayati Raj (village council) Minister, Upendra Prasad Verma, said that the Range Inspector Generals of Tirhut and Darbhanga would investigate the causes as also the role of those involved in the incidents. The two officials would also probe whether Nepalese Maoists were involved in the incidents. The Minister added that one Naxalite has been arrested in this connection.

The encounter reportedly occurred when the police chief and his security guards while returning to the district headquarters after a meeting in Rohtas came across a group of Naxalites. The Naxalites opened fire at the police party and in the ensuing encounter a Naxalite was killed. Police also recovered a SLR, guns, unspecified quantity of ammunition, a wireless set and some Naxalite literature from the encounter site.
