Twenty-seven cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), five carrying cash rewards on their heads, surrendered at Barsoor Police Station in Dantewada District Chhattisgarh on November 1, reports The Pioneer. According to Police the surrendered Maoists were saying they were impressed by the Police rehabilitation drive and dejected with the Maoists for which they have surrendered. Of the 27, 11 cadres are from Gufa village, seven from Bedma, five from Mangnar, three from Hitawada and one from Handawada in the district, Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallav said, without disclosing their identity citing security reasons. They were active as members of the Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) and Krantikari Mahila Adivasi Sangathan (KAMS), frontal wings of the Maoists, Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM), a cultural body of the Maoists, and Jan-militia groups, Pallav said.

The Security Force (SF) personnel seized a country-made gun, live bullets, batteries and some Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) literature after an exchange of fire with Maoists from Baibali forest under Raikia Police limits in Kandhamal District of Odisha on November 2, reports Sambad. Kandhamal, Superintendent of Police (SP), Vinit Agarwal said, after getting reliable information about presence of Maoists in Baibali forest, the security personnel launched a combing operation. When the Maoists fired at the security personnel in the forest during the combing operation, retaliation was made. After an exchange of fire, the Maoists fled the spot. However, the SF personnel recovered gun, ammunition and other Maoist related materials from the forest.

Four Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] belonging to the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), have been arrested and arms and ammunition seized from their possession, in Simdega District of Jharkhand on November 2, reports The New India Express. Acting on a tip-off, Police personnel conducted a search operation in Kanarowan forest in Bano Police Station area and arrested the four PLFI cadres, Superintendent of Police (SP), Shams Tabrez said. On seeing the Policemen, the Naxals attempted to flee but the personnel chased and arrested them, the officer said, adding a country-made rifle and eight cartridges have been seized from their possession.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an encounter between five Maoists and a 20-member "Thunderbolt" patrol team, in the forests near Meenmutty in Wayanad District of Kerala on November 3, reports NDTV. According to Kerala Police, the slain cadre has been identified as Velmurugan from Tamil Nadu. On combing the area, the patrol found a body along with .303 rifle, while the others escaped. According to Police, Velmurugan was an expert in handling arms, propagating Maoist ideology and was an active member of the CPI-Maoist. He was on the run since 2012 and has cases registered against him in Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Cases against him include propagating Maoist ideology, and criminal conspiracy against the Government with illegal weapons, among others are registered against him.

A civilian was allegedly killed by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on suspicion of being a ‘police informer’in the forest near Karhi village in Dhamtari District of Chhattisgarh on November 3, reports The Economic Times. The slain civilian was identified as Niresh Kumar Kunjam (35), a native of Ujravan village, had gone to his paddy elds in Karhi village and was subsequently found dead in the forestnear Karhi village under Mechka Police Station area in the District. The deceased was the husband of Radhika Kunjam, the village Sarpanch(head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution)of Karhi villagePanchayat, Police said. A hand-written pamphlet was found stuck on a tree, in which the Sitanadi Area Committee of Maoists claimed responsibility for the killing and accused Kunjam of acting as a ‘police informer’, Police said, ruling out the deceased's association with Police.

A civilian was injured when a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres exploded near Edasmeta hill under Gangaloor Police Station area in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on November 3, reports Yahoo News.The blast occurred when Ramesh Hemla and two other residents of Nainpal village had gone to collect bamboo from the forest near Edasmeta hill, Police said.While walking on a dirt track, the victim accidentally touched the IED switch, triggering the blast that caused splinter injuries on his hand, the Police said, adding that two other villagers escaped unhurt.The explosive was planted by Maoists to target Security Forces (SFs), as the route is often used by them during anti-Naxal operations, Police said.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an encounter with Police in a forest near Kamalpur village under the Usoor Police Station area in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on November 3, reports The New Indian Express. When a patrolling team was cordoning off the forest near Kamalpur, Maoists opened fire at Police personnel, triggering retaliation. The Maoists soon escaped from the spot taking cover of dense forests along a hill, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar range, Sundarraj P, said. "During a search, the body of a Naxal [Left Wing Extremist, LWE], two rifles, as many bags, Maoist literature and materials of daily use were recovered from the spot", the IGP said. The identity of the slain Maoist was yet to be ascertained, but prima facie it seems he belonged to Usoor LOS (Local Organisation Squad) of Maoists, the IGP added.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader, wanted in several criminal cases, have been arrested in Palamu District of Jharkhand on November 3, reports Outlook. A Police officer said, acting on a tip-off, a Police team arrested Kripal alias Ramesh (38) in Panki Police Station area, when he was on his way to Abun village to meet his family. Kripal has been absconding for the past four years, and has been named accused in more than six incidents of Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] violence, the officer added.

In a joint operation the Border Security Force (BSF) with the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Police unearthed a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp and seized arms and ammunitions from the spot in Malkangiri District of Odisha on November 3, reports The Pioneer. On a tipoff, a joint operation was launched in the Swabhiman Anchal of the District and during search, one of the major arms and ammunition dumps of the Maoists was unearthed which led to recovery and seizure of large quantity of arms, ammunitions and other articles stockpiled by the Maoists cadres of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).

The cadres, who were active in the Malangir Area Committee of the CPI-Maoist, gave themselves up before Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials, Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said. The surrendered Maoists whose identities are yet to be ascertained, said they were impressed by the Police's surrender-cum-rehabilitation campaign 'Lon Varratu' (Homecoming) and disappointed with the Maoist ideology. The officials,on November 16, said that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister (CM), Bhupesh Baghel, in September 2020, wrote a letter to Union Home Minister (UHM) Amit Shah and urged him for deployment of seven battalions of (CRPF) in Bastar region-- sanctioned in 2018-- and also for installation of mobile towers.“Taking cognisance of the demand, the union home minister has decided to send five battalions as soon as possible,” said a senior official privy to the development.The official further stated that CM,Baghel wrote a letter to home minister Amit Shah, on November 12, and thanked him for accepting the demand and also made some suggestions to eradicate Maoism from Bastar region.“Out of the seven additional CRPF battalions allocated to the state in 2018, five battalions were immediately directed to be deployed in the Bastar region. The Maoists opened fire at a team of SFs comprising Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF), Police personnel of Jharkhand and Bihar, who were out on a joint anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation.
