On February 2, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a series of raids across Tamil Nadu (TN) in a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) inspired arms seizure case, reports NIA. The raids targeted premises belonging to suspects, including members of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) party, in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Sivaganga and Tenkasi. The NIA said, “Extensive searches by the agency led to the seizure of one laptop, 7 mobiles, 8 SIM/memory cards and 4 pen drives, along with incriminating documents and books related to the LTTE terror organisation and its self-styled slain supremo, Prabhakaran.” The case was first lodged by Tamil Nadu Police following the arrest of two persons identified as Naveen Chakravorty and Sanjay Prakash, during vehicle check in Salem on May 19, 2022. One more accused identified as Kabilar alias Kabilan, was also arrested in the case. The case was taken over by NIA on July 25, 2022 and investigations are continuing.

On February 2, the State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir conducted raids at five locations in Srinagar and New Delhi, reports Daily Excelsior. An unnamed official said that the searches were carried out simultaneously by special teams of SIA. In Srinagar the raids were conducted at two locations at Saidapora Eidgah and Ahmadnagar areas. In Delhi, the agency is conducting searches at three locations. The raids were carried out in the case that pertains to illegal raising, layering, mixing and laundering of illegal proceeds of crime by the accused persons which subsequently is suspected to have been used in unlawful activities including secessionism and terrorism. “The enquiry revealed that funds to the tune of several crores of rupees had been raised and laundered in a short span of time. These transactions were primarily cash infused thereby institutionalising suspected ill-gotten gains into the banking system in a bid to establish a criminal-terror network syndicate,” he said. “Pertinently this was the second round of searches in this case. Earlier SIA had raided 32 locations in Delhi and Kashmir,” it said.

On February 4, Delhi Police arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as Riyaz Ahmed, suspectedly an operative of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) from New Delhi Railway Station, reports Hindustan Times. Officers said Riyaz Ahmed, is a resident of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) KPS Malhotra said Ahmed retired from the Indian Army in January 2023. He said the suspect was wanted as a part of the terror module neutralized by the J&K Police for smuggling arms and ammunition from across the border.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) on February 5, bestowed powers to all states and Union Territories to declare the terrorist group Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) a banned organisation under the UAPA, reports indiatvnews.com. Earlier, the central government had on January 29, 2024 extended the ban on the SIMI for five more years. In a notification, UMHA said in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 42 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central government directs that all powers exercisable by it under section 7 and section 8 of the said Act shall also be exercised by the state governments and the Union Territory administrations in relation to the unlawful association SIMI.10 state governments -- Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh have recommended for declaration of SIMI as an "unlawful association" under the provisions of UAPA.

On February 7, a Palakkad native, identified as Riyas Aboobacker is found guilty of plotting a suicide attack in Kerala in 2016 by National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Kochi, Kerala, reports The New Indian Express. Riyas was arrested by NIA in 2019 as part of the probe against 14 persons from Kasaragod District who joined Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) in 2016. He was found guilty under IPC section 120 (b) for conspiracy, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) section 30 for having membership of a terrorist organisation and section 39 for giving support to terrorist organisations.

On February 9, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Ernakulam District in Kerala sentenced an Islamic State (IS) operative identified as Riyas Aboobacker alias Abu Dujana for promoting the outfit’s violent ideology and agenda and conspiring to carry out suicide attacks in Kochi in Kerala, reports Free Press Journal. He was arrested by the NIA on September 24, 2019, and charge-sheeted in October 2023. Aboobacker has been found guilty under sections 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and section 120B of Indian Penal Code (IPC). He is the third person to be convicted in the IS Kasaragod module case. The case is related to the activities of 14 youths from the Kasaragod District of Kerala who, along with their families, had exited India between May and July 2016 and had joined IS/ Daesh in the Islamic Caliphate announced by terrorist organisation.

Raids were conducted at 11 locations associated with Madras Arabic College / Kovai Arabic College in connection with the radicalisation case, which involved individuals engaged in clandestine radicalisation of gullible youth in the garb of Arabic language classes through preaching of radical ideologies and promotion of violent Jihad at their Regional Study Centres in Tamil Nadu. Besides the Arabic classes, the radicalisation took place online, through social media platforms and mobile applications, such as WhatsApp and Telegram. The IS operatives were using the classes and the social media to impart radical sermons to propagate Khilafat and IS ideologies inimical to India’s constitutionally established principles of secularism, democracy etc.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) Kerala on February 12, arrested a suspected master trainer of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), identified as Jafar Bheemantavida from his house in Kannur District of Kerala, reports abplive.com. Bheemantavida, was wanted in a case registered in 2022 related to a conspiracy by the proscribed organisation to establish Islamic rule in the country by 2047. Reportedly he is the 59th accused to be arrested in the case in which the NIA has so far charge-sheeted 60 persons. “He was suspected to be a PFI master trainer, engaged in imparting weapons training to PFI cadres to prepare them to operate as members of Service Team/ Hit squads of the organisation. Such a team or squad is mandated with the responsibility of carrying out targeted attacks and using force in execution of the orders of the PFI leadership,” the NIA spokesperson said.

Javed made the bombs on the direction of a woman, Imrana, of Shamli District, after receiving an advance of INR 10,000 of the total INR 50,000 that she promised to pay him at the time of delivery, said officials. Imrana is wife of one Azad, a resident of Bantikheda village under Babri Police Station limits of Shamli. On February 19, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) chargesheeted the 14th accused identified as Lingam A alias Adilingam in the case related to revival of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) in Sri Lanka and India, reports NIA. Adilingam has been charged with conspiring and acting to revive LTTE through illegal trade in narcotic drugs and arms. Adilingam had also acted as an agent for collection of hawala money obtained from the sale of narcotic drugs, which were being further distributed to promote LTTE activities. Earlier, on June 15, 2023, NIA had filed a chargesheet before the special court against 13 accused, charging them with hatching conspiracies in various parts of Tamil Nadu to carry out terrorist activities and drug trafficking in the territorial waters of the Indian Ocean.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar claimed that Hanif was the most notorious and wanted SIMI terrorist who had played pivotal roles in various activities of the organisation across the country. On February 23, the Anti-Gangster Task Force team of the Rajasthan Police arrested one terrorist identified as Mohammad Merajuddin from Gangapur city in Sawai Madhopur District of Rajasthan, who was wanted in connection to terrorist activities and was carrying a reward of INR 25,000, reports The Hindustan Times. Additional Director General of Police (DGP) Anti-Gangster Task Force and Crime, Dinesh MN said that in 2014, there was a plan by sleeper cells to carry out terrorist activities in various parts of India. In this case, a total of 13 terrorists from Sikar, Jodhpur, and Jaipur Districts were arrested. Out of them, 12 have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. The arrested terrorist was on the run since the time of the incident and a reward of INR 25,000 was announced by the Anti-Terror Squad-Special Operations Group (ATS-SOG) on January 24, 2018.

On February 27, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Kolkata in West Bengal sentenced one accused identified as Akramul of Malda District of West Bengal to five years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI), and INR 10,000 fine under sections 489C & 120B of Indian penal Code (IPC), as well as seven years RI and INR 10,000 fine under 16 &18 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in the 2021 Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) seizure case, taking the total number of convictions in the case to three, reports NIA. All sentences will run concurrently. A special task force at Lalbazar Street Police station in Kolkata had initially registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case on January 22, 2020 against Akramul and Senaul Sk alias Senaul, following the seizure of huge quantity of high quality FICNs in the denomination of INR 500. Subsequent questioning of Senaul led to the arrest of the third accused, Enamul Hoque, on February 1, 2020, along with seizure of more FICN. The case was taken over and re-registered by NIA in March 2020, and investigations by the agency led to the arrest of the four accused. NIA found that all the four accused had hatched a criminal conspiracy for procuring and circulating FICNs with the intention to use the same for unlawful gains.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) disclosed that accused office-bearers and cadres of the Popular Front of India (PFI) raised INR 90 million from unknown sources between 2011 and 2022 to train its cadres to indulge in unlawful activities, reports The Indian Express on February 29. More than half of the amount was deposited through cash in small tranches of INR 50,000 each and there was no audit on these transactions. Objecting to the bail applications filed by seven accused before the NIA Special Court in Bengaluru, NIA stated that they held various conspiracy meetings, recruited youth to commit terrorist acts, raised funds and imparted training on how to use weapons at Freedom Educational and Charitable Trust at Mittur of Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka. The meetings were to strengthen PFI to commit terror acts against Hindu leaders and to make India an Islamic republic by 2047.
