Two gunrunners, identified as Athokpam Tenzing Singh alias Tejbaba and Koijam Herachandra, were arrested in a joint raid conducted by Bishnupur district police and Imphal East district police at Bashikhong in the Imphal East district on the same day, reports Telegraph. Two hand grenades, nine detonators, 94 bullets of 9-mm pistol, two bullets of .38-calibre revolver and two Nokia mobile handsets, SIM cards and one vehicle were recovered from them. According to police sources, they had procured the ammunition from Chandel district and were planning to hand over the ammunition to militants belonging to the Dimasa group of Karbi Anglong district in the neighbouring State of Assam.

Two Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) cadres, Sougaijam Santosh alias Rishi and Laishram Sunil alias Amujao, were arrested by Imphal East district police commandos during a search operation on March 3 in front of the Central Reserve Police Force camp at Mantripukhri. While one magazine of M-20 pistol loaded with 3 live rounds of 9 mm and 6 nos. of AK-47 ammunition were recovered from Santosh, one magazine of .32 pistol loaded with 2 live rounds of .32 ammunition were recovered from the possession of Sunil. They confessed that they were operating under the command of one Sana Macha of the KYKL. On the same day, one People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) cadre, Mohammed Najir Ahamed alias Ningthem alias Laskar, was arrested by police during another search operation at Hatta Golapati in the Imphal East district. He confessed that he joined the outfit in March 2007 through one Mohammmed Khalique of Yairipok Ningthounai and was operating in the ‘finance section’ of the PULF.

At least 60 medicine shops near Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital at Porompat in the Imphal East district were closed for an indefinite period on March 3 in protest against extortion demands made by four militant outfits, according to Telegraph. Two outfits demanded INR 300 each from the shops as monthly ‘tax’, while the third group demanded INR 200 each per month and the fourth one asked the shop owners to give INR 5,000 each as annual ‘tax’. Imphal Free Press reports that six militant outfits have been demanding share from the funds released to the gram panchayats (village level local self-government institutions) for development of rural areas. Four of them have already withdrawn their demands after negotiations but two of them are still pressing for a percentage despite strong pleas from the panchayat members. The elected representatives sat in protest against such demand in front of the office complex of Imphal East District Collector since March 5. They warned to submit mass resignation if the underground groups do not withdraw their demand on them by March 7 (today).

Replying to another question put up by Nandakumar, the Chief Minister stated that 776 weapons of various types were seized from underground organisations between April 2002 and February 15, 2008. The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with nine rounds of ammunition and a pistol from their possession. The DGP stated that Robert was a "corporal" in the KYKL ranks, but had never been arrested. An arrested KYKL cadre, Laishram Homen alias Korou, is suspected to be one of those who planned the selective killings. The DGP also said the police were on the trail of four more KYKL members who killed five migrants in Imphal East district the day after the Heiyen Hangool attack. The KYKL, however, denied its involvement in the killings.
