The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants abducted a person, Oinam Kunje, and later paraded him before media persons at an unspecified place in the Thoubal district on February 1, reports Sangai Express. Kunje allegedly issued a statement through the media in the name of PLA to save his son, Oinam Rejenson, who was involved in misbehaving with a family returning home from Silchar in Assam on January 11. The outfit asked Rejenson to ‘surrender’ in seven days time and warned of stern action in his failure to do so. Two other persons, Sapam Pradip and Haobijam Singjajit, who were also allegedly involved in the incident, had already ‘surrendered’ before the outfit. In order to save his son, Kunje allegedly stated claiming that the matter was settled.

At least two women were killed and one was seriously injured when a powerful IED, planted by unidentified militants, exploded on February 4 on the New Somtal Road under Molcham Police Station of Chandel district, reports Kanglaonline. Two of the dead were identified as Paoneng Haokip and Hoilem Guite, both residents of New Somtal Village. One of their co-workers, Lhingkhonem Haokip, sustained splinter injuries in the blast. According to police, all the victims were labourers employed under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme who were involved in clearing and maintenance of the road.

The three were identified as Laishram Boy alias Sachichandra, Md. Jahiya, and Md. Farooque Ahamad, and were arrested by the police from Lilong Mairenkhun. Police also seized a Maruti 800 car, one Italy made .32 pistol with magazines and one Indian made hand grenade from them.

Unidentified militants shot dead a former cadre of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), identified as Yengkhom Sanjit alias Bobby alias Moramba, at Lamlai Makha Leikai under Lamlai police station in the Imphal East district on February 6- night, Imphal Free Press reports. According to his family, Sanjit had gone to Wangjing along with a friend in the morning, but was abducted by five armed men in the afternoon at Khurai while on his way home. Sanjit, a resident of Kharasom Awang Leikai, was found at Lamlai Makha Leikai Phura Makhong on February 7-morning.
