On December 2, acting ‘chairman’ of the Pambei faction of United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Moirangthem Nongyai stated that the peace agreement signed on November 29, does not compromise its demand for the 'sovereignty of Manipur' and the outfit made it clear that it will not lay down its weapons until a solution regarding its demand for a "sovereign Manipur" is achieved, reports deccanherald.com. Nongyai said, " The Government of India has accepted the fact that Manipur was once a sovereign state. We are yet to join the mainstream and if talks fail, we might still return to the jungle again." The clarification from the Pambei faction came after the Koireng faction of UNLF, alleged that the Pambei faction deviated from the 'political principle' of the UNLF by signing the peace pact, describing as a "death trap" the recent peace agreement signed by the Pambei group with the government.
