On June 5, the UN Security Council (UNSC) pursuant to Resolution 1988 (2011) lifted travel restrictions on four Taliban leaders, who are serving the interim administration in Afghanistan, reports globalvillagespace.com. According to a brief notification by UNSC, the lifting of travel restrictions was approved in the case of Abdul Kabir Mohammad Jan, ‘deputy prime minister’; Abdul-Haq Wassiq, ‘intelligence chief’; Noor Mohammad Saqib, ‘minister of Hajj and religious officers’; and Sirajuddin Jallaloudine Haqqani ‘interior minister’. The restrictions were removed for their visit to Mecca, Saudi Arabia where they will perform the annual Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj, the notification added.
