Police have also arrested two persons identified as Baruluddin and Giashuddin, on an unspecified date, in this connection and have sent them to remand. According to the reports, the cassettes carry anti-India propaganda allegedly delivered by Dilowar Moulana Hussain, a Bangladesh Member of Parliament (MP) of the Jamat-e-Islami, Bangladesh Agriculture Minister Matiur Rahaman and other Islamic fundamentalists.

Security forces (SFs), on January 15, arrested three illegal arms dealers, also suspected conduits of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) in Assam's Karbi Anglong district. According to official sources, on a tip off, an SF-patrol party intercepted the auto rickshaw they were travelling in, in Lahorijan village, and arrested them. The search party also recovered two disassembled 12 bore single barrel guns and 10 live rounds of ammunition from the vehicle.

Based on information provided by a United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) terrorist, Bipul Gohain alias Mridul Neog, arrested from the Paltanbazar area in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, on June 8, the police arrested another ULFA cadre Akon Gogoi alias Pranjal Gogoi alias Chabua Moran from his residence at Bhadhara village under Chabua police station, on June 11. The arrests further led to the unearthing of a ‘communication centre’ of the ULFA at Kakopathar in No 2 Dirak village, Tinsukia district and also arrest of an ULFA conduit Prafulla Hazarika by a joint police team of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts. A large quantity of incriminating documents relating to the ULFA’s activities in the area were also recovered during the raid.

In continuing ethnic violence, one terrorist was killed and a police personnel injured while 50 Dimasa houses were set ablaze in the Cachar district of Assam on June 16, said official sources. Approximately 70 Hmar Peoples Convention (HPC-Democratic) terrorists reportedly attacked the Dipucherra Dimasa village, abandoned by the villagers recently, and set ablaze at least 50 houses, they said. A police team from Joypur police station later encountered the HPC-D terrorists when they were about to escape, killing one of them while one Sub-Inspector of Police sustained injuries. However, rest of the terrorists managed to escape into the nearby forests. Security forces cordoned off the area and have launched a combing operation to arrest the terrorists and also prevent them from crossing over to other areas. One person has been arrested thus far in connection with this incident.
