A top-listed cadre of the Janajuddha faction of the Purba Banglar Comminist Party (PBCP), identified as Siddiqur Rahman alias Biplob (28), was killed during an encounter between the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel and PBCP extremists at Ramchandrapur village in the Jhenidah District on April 28, reports Daily Star. A RAB trooper and a Policeman were injured during the encounter, which occurred when Security Forces raided a PBCP hideout in search of a trader who was abducted by the extremists on April 27 from Ganna union of the District. A revolver, four round bullets, one shutter gun, one motorcycle, two mobile phones, two hand bombs and a mobile SIM were recovered from the incident site.

A regional leader of the Red Flag faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), identified as Chand Ali alias 'Boma' Chand, was killed in an encounter with the Police at Madarbaria village of Santhia Sub-District under Pabna District on November 27, reports Daily Star. Police recovered recovered a shutter gun and eight bullets from the encounter site. Nibash Chandra Majhi, superintendent of Police of Pabna District said that Chand was an accused in eight murder cases and was absconding.

Two top cadres of the Red Flag faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Red Flag) were killed in a gun battle with the Security Forces (SFs) in the Atrai sub-district of Naogaon District on July 28, reports Daily Star. The dead were, identified as Abdus Salam alias Topu, who was the Naogaon regional chief of the outfit, and Jahangir alias Jalal, outfit’s military affairs commander for greater Rajshahi region. A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel and a Policeman also sustained injuries during the gun battle. Subsequently, the SFs recovered an Indian-made automatic pistol, a shooter gun, two bullets, seven cartridges, PBCP leaflets, a mobile phone set and two torches from the incident site. The report added that both Topu and Jalal were accused in more than five cases, including murder of Police personnel and Government’s arm looting cases of Chowbaria in the Naogaon District and Taherpur of Bagmar in the Rajashi District. The SFs were reportedly searching for the duo since the late 90s as many of the arrested PBCP cadres in their confessional statements had mentioned the names of the duo to be involved in several murders.

A regional leader of the Janajuddha faction of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) was killed in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) at Nabdah area in Chuadanga District on July 31, reports Daily Star. The deceased was identified as Mozam Ali. Subsequently, Police recovered one pistol and three bullets from the incident site. Acting on a tip-off, separate teams of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) and Alamdanga Police engaged in an encounter with a group of Janajuddho cadres led by Mozam at Nabdah Eidgah where they were holding a secret meeting at about 5:50am BST. Police said that Mozam committed several murders and other crimes like extortion and robbery in the District.

Regional leader Jahangir Alam and a front ranking extremist of the outfit, identified as Yarul Islam, were shot dead in an encounter with the Police at Beel Amla area in the Mirpur District. Police said the duo were ‘most wanted’ outlaws in the District and belonged to Khalishakundi in the Daulatpur sub-district of Kushtia District. Police said that informed of a secret meeting of the outlawed outfit, a Police team cordoned off the area around 3:00am (BST). Lutfor died on the spot, said Police. A regional leader of the Janajuddha faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), identified as Naharul Islam, was killed in an encounter with the Police at Jagannathpur village in Kushtia District in the morning of August 22 (today), reports Daily Star. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Daulatpur Police surrounded a field at Jagannathpur where a group of extremists led by Naharul were holding meeting at about 4.00am (BST). After an hour-long encounter, Police recovered the dead body of Naharul along with one LG gun and 24 bullets from the incident site. However, the other militants managed to escape. Naharul was reportedly accused in at least 10 cases, including six of murder, Police said.

Acting on a tip-off, separate teams of the Detective Branch and Kushtia Police engaged in an encounter with the cadres of the Gono Bahini at Milpara Shashan Ghat, as the cadres were crossing the Gorai River on boat around 4:30am (BST). Police recovered the dead body of regional unit ‘commander’ of the outfit Shahinur from the spot after his accomplices fled. Police also recovered one locally-made gun and 15 bullets from the spot. Kushtia Police said that Shahinur was accused of extortion, mugging and looting on the river ways.

Acting on a tip off, a joint team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Police raided a place at Baria in Kushtia District around 3:30am (BST), where at least 20 GMF cadres, including Sakmol, were holding a meeting. The Security Forces (SFs) surrounded the area and asked the cadres to surrender. Refusing to surrender the cadres opened fire at the SFs who retaliated. Sakmol was found dead while other militants managed to escape. The SFs recovered a light gun (LG) and six bullets from the encounter site. Police said that Sakmol was accused in 16 cases, including six murders. In Khulna District, Police confronted cadres of the PBCP-Red Flag, including Apu, while conducting a drive on the bank of river Atharobeki at Rajapur village. While Apu was killed, his accomplices managed to escape injuring two constables - Nasirul Islam and Bakul - in the shootout that lasted for about 20 minutes, said Khulna Superintendent of Police. Police recovered a locally-made gun and four bullets from the encounter site. Apu was reportedly accused in a number of cases, including three of murder. In Bagerhat District, an encounter took place between the cadres of PBCP-Janajuddha and Police at Daibaggakati village in Morelganj sub-district at around 4:30am (BST). Police said they raided a betel leaf enclosure where the PBCP-Janajuddha cadres were holding a meeting. Official sources said Chuadanga Sadar Police raided a mango orchard, behind the Kedarganj Girls College, where a group of PBCP men, led by Jamal, were holding a secret meeting at about 1:30 AM (BST). The cadres hurled bombs on the Police personnel. After an hour long encounter the cadres managed to escape from the encounter site. Later, the bodies of Jammal and Sunnat were found lying on the ground. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Rab Aminul Islam Amin and Constable Manik were injured in the encounter. One foreign made pistol, three LGs, two shutter guns, six bullets and 11 bombs were recovered from the encounter site. Hailing from Palashpara village of Chuadanga town, Jalmal had been leading PBCP-ML since 2005 after the death of its founder Mofakkar Hossain Choudhury on December 4, 2004 in Kushtia. Chuadanga Police said he was wanted in 16 cases, including 12 for murder. Sunnat of Loknathpur village in Damurhuda upazila (Sub-District) in Chuadanga was awarded 20 years imprisonment by a Chuadanga court in a murder case in 1994. But he was released from jail after nine years and again joined the outfit. Sunnat was accused in 11 cases, including four for murder, Police said.
