Another armed cadre of the outfit, Rashed Goldar, was also killed in the encounter, which left four policemen injured. According to police sources, Altaf was directly involved in the killings of Saha and Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Amir Azam Khan. The Independent reports that a ‘regional leader’ of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), Rifat alias Kafil alias Kajal, was killed on October 31 in a ‘crossfire’ a day after he was arrested. According to reports, the PBCP leader was killed as he tried to escape from police custody at Khadimpur in Chuadanga district where he was taken for recovering some arms.
